I have an Ipaq RX3715 PPC equipped with Btooth, wireless and an SD slot (4bit???)
I also have a Sony Ericson Mobile phone with Btooth
I would like to be able to access the net and my webmail away from home.
I have a great travelling ISP account with MAGLOBE which I use when I have my Laptop with me via a land line.

I sometimes can find a hotspot with the RX3715
IF I try using the Btooth mobile paired with the PPC to dial an ISP such as Maglobe I get a no modem errorr message . MY Mobile provider tell me they lock out any provider but their own and their service is expensive for my needs.

The other thoughts are either a seperate bluetooth Modem eg SOCKET or a SDIO Modem card would solve my problem. However I was told the RX3715 will not work with the SDIO modem card apparently because the RX3715 is only 4bit ?? I'm lost?

Any help with my access problem would be appreciated

Welcome to Geekzone!

Most mobile operators these days block any data access via dial-up (CSD), allowing only data access via GPRS or UMTS. This seems to be case.

As you found out the only wat around it is to use a Bluetooth modem or similar device. I have tried the Zoom Bluetooth Modem and it is a nice device, working well with Pocket PC. Remember though it is not as flexible since you will need a landline.

Thanks for the response.
I was thinking that the SD card solution may be better for me have you nay thoughts about the RX3715's ability to accept an SDIO Modem card?
I must admit I dont understand the 4bit thing

Hmmm. Never seem a SDIO Modem card, but I wouldn't like a phone cable hanging from the top (or side or bottom depending on the Pocket PC) and I wouldn't like the lack of mobility.

The Bluetooth modem option is good because you can plug it to the wall and then use it from up to 10m with no wires (not through walls though, remember!).

If the modem is SDIO and your Pocket PC supports SDIO, there's no distinction. The 4bit is just how much data is transferred from the card to the Pockete PC, and usually is used to compare with speeds reached with MMC, which uses only 1bit at a time. Don't worry about this.
