Gidday,

I have always liked the idea of using my iPaq as a universal remote. However, my previous model (h5550) was never any good as it didn't have a commerical IR transmitter. I was going to revisit the whole thing with my new one as a controller for my HTPC project, but the hx4700 has the IR transmitter on the *bottom* of the device. Hardly useful.

Anyhow, I was just wondering if anyone else out there had any luck with using thier iPaq as a universal remote control? If so, what model and software do you use?

If changing the Pocket PC is not an option, it's hard... There are a couple of HP "Media Companion" series with CIR instead of IrDA. I think these come with Nevo Remote Control, which used to come with the h3970 and worked quite well, including macros, learning, etc (I still have my h3970 around here).

There are a couple of new software, and a few weeks ago I tried the Vito Remote. It is compatible with CCF files so you can import those, and also the new version comes with Voice commands (you have to record the tags). It works well, but my h4150 had a limited IrDA range. They have a trial version.

An option is the Novii Remote. Never used it but heard good things.
