Google has released Google Maps Mobile with voice nav for the Android, and I imagine that its on the way for Symbian devices and the like.

This got me wondering, how much longer are Nokia going to be trying to rip us off for charging $$$ for there voice nav service if google is offering it for free?

Me thinks not long!

And not to mention the $100 - $200 that Garmin/Tom Tom/Uniden/Navman charge for replacement maps.

Be interesting to see if Google are worthy of competing.  Personally apart from the interface I really like the google directions, especially the link with Wellington's public transport (you can say I want to go frm here to here using public transport, and it will direct to to the nearest bus stop etc - great when they're not marked).

Is it a true GPS or does mobile data still prevail?

That would be very expensive going overseas and paying data roaming or a prepaid simcard locally sought.

Google Maps always uses data. Other packages have local data on a SD card.
