Hello people,

I have purchased a Blackberry Curve 8320 from Overseas and am using it in Auckland, NZ. I have already got it unlocked from the official Vodafone store.

Recently, I got the Vodafone data plan ($10 for 100MB) and have started using my phone to browse the net. It does not have 3G but its got a GPRS connection that i use.

If i use the in-built browser, I am able to browse the internet perfectly and can check my gmail, facebook etc etc  and everything works fine. However, if i try using an application for the same job (I downloaded some gmail and facebook apps from the net) it does not work.

It repeatedly gives the error "this service requires an active data connection. Please contact your service provider if problem persists", even though my phone does have an active data connection.

Can you pelase help me out?

Regards,

Mannit

I'm pretty sure you need a BIS plan rather than a standard data plan. When I got my Blackberry Bold I was on the 100mb data plan and that didn't work so I had to sign up to a BIS plan. Welcome to the world of Blackberry mate, hope you've got a fat wallet.

Hey,

Thanks for that. So what is this BIS plan? Is it another one by vodafone? Did your apps start working after you got this plan?

BIS is blackberry internet service. Its not a vodafone thing as such, its actually a blackberry thing. Blackberries use compression software for their data which means 30mb of standard data is only about 2mb of data on your blackberry (roughly). Long story short, you need to sign up to a BIS plan through vodafone rather than a standard data plan in order for your BB to work properly.

If you search this forum its been explained in more detail
