MobileFoneRepair(Carbine Road, Auckland) refuses to look at my 6660 because it was bought overseas.I find that strange because I had it fixed there 2 years ago. Apparently company policy has changed since.

Does anyone know where else I can get my phone looked at? It is just a handset speaker problem- the volume is really really low and is a bit annoying when I have to turn on the loudspeaker all the time. If anyone knows where I can get parts(handset speaker) from, would also be very helpful cuz I will probably have a shot at it myself.

That's strange - if you are not claiming warranty repairs that would mean they don't like to earn money...

Perhaps a critical mass of problems fixing overseas handsets with odd settings and foreign firmware is their reason?

e.g. take an asian handset in, and reflash it with whatever firmware they have, potentially lose some functionality, and have no way to put it back how it was, customer complains and demands a new handset? (speculation, is this situation possible?>??)

If you've ever bothered to read their disclaimer you are accepting they take no responsibility for anything! :-)

I went to MFR a few weeks ago with an issue with one of my phones and found their service was about as bad as their pricing..

What really annoys me is their attitutude towards even giving quotes. I went in with a phone belonging to somebody else with a cracked screen - they were unable to give a price for a replacement screen and said that they would have to look at the phone themselves which would add on the assesment fee. While some may argue this is perfectly fair all I wanted to know was an approximate price for the screen and the labour to replace it knowing their was a high probability there was no point at all in getting the phone repaired since they generally charge $250+ for most a lot of LCD replacements however some older phones are only around $100ish. I'm not paying the $50 or whatever they wanted just for them to spend 5 mins looking at the phone, deciding the screen is cracked and that a new one will cost $x when they could have just said that in the first place!

Seems like they can afford to be arrogant since they are the only available place. Isn't there any other alternative to MFR in Auckland?
