No it didn't I turned it off by default.

I have just deleted all the maps on my phone and installed whatever that was available with Nokia Map Loader, and the GPS has gotten a lock within 20seconds!!

I will try getting locks while I'm out and about tomorrow and see if deleting and re:loading the maps has help.

Cheers for the speedy reply tho matey! Laughing

I've updated to Ovi 3.04 but am still having no luck with igps lock without assistance.

It only locks when I have it on assisted/wifi or network based.

With A-GPS locks are usually within 15s on almost every GPS-capable phone I've owned, without they vary greatly depending on weather conditions, surrounding buildings/trees, any thing that impairs a clear view to the sky. When I say vary greatly I mean even in the order of 5-10 minutes while remaining stationary, how long have you been giving it?

And have you been outside or near a window?

I couldn't even get a lock from standing in Vic Park in the auckland cbd...   only strange looks from people!

Currently at my parent's house in Howick surrounded by trees and hills and I actually got a lock within seconds...  go figure?!

I had the same problem while I was in Amsterdam and Berlin earlier this year, it was a hit and miss affair with the igps despite having clear weather.

Did you restart your phone at some stage?

A 'cold' lock after a fresh boot always takes longer than a 'hot'' lock, obtained after obtaining a lock previously...

All GPS units require an Almanac to assist them in calculating your position. This Almanac information is downloaded from the satellites and for best fast fixes the almanac must be up todate AND you should be within a few hundred kms of where your GPS last got a fix.

If you did a firmware update it's possible that either the GPS default position was reset (to somewhere else in the world), meaning the almanac was trying to get the reciever to look for the wrong satellites, or that the Almanac was wiped in the process.  Either way the GPS reciever would have trouble establishing a position  as it would have been starting with either no or wrong information.  If the GPS can't find a satellite, it will after a period of time start scanning all channels till it finds one, then another, then another etc.... and it will download a current almanac. This can take 10mins plus depending upon the device.

I am still trying to get a lock around the cbd but no luck whatsoever so far, and the phone has been sitting by the window for the past hour.
