Hmmm, really? I've never seen it work. Is it just on the new OVI Maps 3.3? - That my N85 can't have :(

BrentR: Sure does.

Hmmm doesn't work on my 5800 which has latest version of Maps.  What am I doing wrong?  Is there a later version of the map database that I need?

What do you have the Speed limit Warner set to under Navigation settings? I have mine set at 5km/h and 10km/h

Be aware it only works while you're navigating.

Thanks Brent,

Your post confirms what I found out.  I had a few spare moments this morning and decided to poke around in the settings.  When I took a closer look I discovered that the speed warning was set at 10kph for less than 80 and 20 kph for above 80.  This probably explains why I have never got a warning, I almost never exceed those limits and certainly haven't while using the Maps app.

I was aware that it only worked while navigating.

Ah. That's a pity. And a bit unnecessary?

It makes sense to me.  The maps system needs to up and running to know where you are in order to give warnings.

I tried it out after changing the settings but it still didn't work. Cry

I live in Hamilton and was driving on suburban streets.  Does it only work on certain streets/roads?

It could well be just major cities.

I just went for a drive around Wellington and it worked fine.

Let me check and get back to you. :)

There is one possibility that I hadn't considered and that is having the latest map database.  I'm currently downloading that now.  Could this be the cause of my problem?

Possibly, I update every 3 months when Ovi Maps app is updated. (or I change phones)

Sure the maps system needs to be up. But you don't have to be using it to navigate... I still want speed warnings from home to the office although I don't need turn by turn instructions.

Just tried it (set to On, 5km/h, 5km/h) in Auckland (Nokia 5800) and it didn't work even while navigating. Admittedly the maps are 6months old or so.
