Hello,

I was just about to buy a Nokia x6 but I watched a review and saw some of the web browsing lag issues. Where the Phone is pretty much unresponsive till the page is loaded and the inbuilt browser is shiet for clicking on links (as I found out in a VF store yesterday). Has anyone else used this phone and fixed the issue?

I was just thinking about installing opera but I dont think they will allow thast in a shop. Has anyone tried it?

Apparently a lot of issues have been reported where dust collects in one corner under the screen.

It's just a 5800 with a new skin

I give up - Maybe I should just get an iPhone4. I'm getting tired of phones that are slow and laggy with small issues...

I've got a 5800, but I mainly use the Opera Mini browser rather than the default browser on the device.

And how do you find that browser on it? I'm just not a fan of lag, but I don't want a phone I will break like the iPhone...

Hey.

I just bought an X6 last week. There had been a recent update of the firmware to this phone which had improvements which included the speed of the browser. I updated the firmware as soon as I got the phone so never experienced the previous firmware issues.

I can tell you that I find browsing with the default browser absolutely fine, no complaints at all. I do have other observations about this phone which may affect your decision but the browser should not be one of them.

Thanks, so do you like this phone? I have read reviews and it's a 50/50. When I tried the phone in the shop it did ask if I wanted to update, I would like to have given this a go to see what it's like.

Either this one or the iPhone4 but when you can buy two of these for the same price as iP4 I am not sure...

Indeed the iPhone4 sounds great but iPhones are still so expensive and I just don't like how locked down they are.

So what do I think of the phone? Well as a point of reference, I had a Nokia N95 for almost 3 years. It was great and I still enjoyed using it but the battery life was awful and the slowness of the OS was starting to get to me. I also felt like I was missing out on the touch-screen revolution.

I digress. What I like about the phone:
- Quick navigation through menus
- Generous amount of RAM allowing for quite a few apps to run at the same time
- Loading photo gallery is quite quick (took about 10 seconds on N95)
- Great sound
- Good camera (on par if not slightly below N95)
- Dual LED flash

Things I'm not so thrilled about:
- The screen, while still 3.2", isn't really wide enough. Needs to be a smidgen wider
- The answer/hangup keys feel quite "plasticy"
- The phone doesn't really feel chunky enough for me to grip firmly
- The 16GB of memory in reality starts at 14.9GB
- The whole screen isn't used when looking at photos but is for videos (???)

So overall it's a nice phone but I can't see myself still being enjoying using it and being impressed by it 3 years later like with the N95. Nokia truly hit their peak with the N95 and I don't think to date have come out with a phone that has impressed like it.

I have 5800 and as has been mentioned already the X6 is a later version of the 5800, the main user difference is the capacitive screen on the X6 rather than the resisitive screen on the 5800.

Yep, screen could be a little wider, but having said that, the phone is a good size to hold, some with wider screens are not as nice to hold. If you want a bigger screen take a look at the N8.

I use Opera Mobile and find it very good, though I still use the original Nokia browser occasionally. There is the odd website where the Nokia browser displays the web window better.

The Ovi (Nokia) maps is great (and Free) and does not require you to be on line for it to work. If you're into sports like running, cycling, tramping, mountain biking etc the Sports Tracker programme is fantastic.

Skype is also available for the Nokia.

I have played with the iPhone, it is nice, but overall I am very happy with the Nokia. I do wonder about some of the reviews that you see on some sites, I don't think that they are all that representative of the general user experiences.

Other changes worth mentioning besides the capacitive screen change on the X6 is that comes with 16GB (but no micro SD) whereas the 5800 has 128MB but you can add a microSD up to 16GB. Also the camera on the 5800 is 3.2 MP and the X6 is 5 MP with a dual-LED flash.

Nice, so it looks like opera can fix the lag issue..

Can you try this, load up a webpage like stuff.co.nz in opera and see if you can move around the page whilst it is still loading. When I tried this on the default browser the phone locked up till the page loaded which was about 15-20 seconds.

What is the batter life like?
How often do you charge the phone? I'm on an e63 and find I only need to charge it every 2.5 days. I usually talk for about 30 mins a day and play games for 30 and have gmail push on.

Pretty much I want a phone like this or the iPhone with little lag and long battery life. I like the x6 because I can buy two of these for the price of an iPhone4.

Was that on 3g or wifi?

2-3 days seems good. Its similar to my e63 which im getting sick of the lagg. I love iPhones but hate charging every day.

That was 3G. Was using the 3G on the phone for both Opera and Joiku rebroadcasting the 3G as WiFi for the laptop.

I loaded a page using Opera on the X6 and indeed was able to move around on the page while still loading. I also tested the same on the browser and had to wait until page loaded before being able to browse. I guess that's a personal choice as I'm not bothered waiting for the page to load first.
I do far prefer Opera's menu bar the very bottom for navigating etc. Very nicely done. Bringing up the menu in the default browser doesn't work every time. Bear in mind that the default browser will always be used for opening links as well as the "quick launch" button. I imagine this can be hacked in some way.

The battery life is good so far. Having said that I have installed the battery extender pro a few days ago and it's doing an amazing job. Fully charged phone yesterday morning. Used GPS (would drain the N95) for about an hour yesterday, a fair bit of browsing, gmail push is on and still have 4 bars.

Compared to the iPhone? I've never had an iPhone but....the physical feel to the phone is not like the iPhone, somewhat smaller and the screen size is not as generous as the iPhone.
