i have an HP IPAQ 4350..running 64mb pc memory and 1GB storage card mem.
i have been loading the programs onto the storage card however even when doing this when checking the memory status..i still show high pc memory usage by the programs i saved on the storage card.
anyone got any ideas as i assumed by running the programs direct from the storage card it would keep the pc memory usage low..doesnt seem to be the case.

Programs stay running in the background once started - they only close if you choose to do so via the Memory option in the Settings, or use a special program for this. I recommend MagicButton (free).

Also, if you use Internet Explorer you should consider clearing the cache often. On Internet Explorer, tap Tools | Options and tap the [Delete Files] button.

i have cleared the cache etc..however even wheni have done a complete full reset and reload the rpograms directly to the storage card..i am still showing 49% usage of the pc memory used!
i understand the programs need to be stopped running in the back ground.
is it fair to say then what i am seeing as usage on the program memory is fucnction memory and NOT storage memory?

further to this discussion.i have the resco 2005 explorer. this gives me icons on the desk top with instant visual readouts outs on all aspects of the pda. I have loaded ALL the programs onto the storage card (1GB) however with nothing running in the memory like all program tasks ended..its shows main storage (56%) programs (51%) storage card (2%)
could it be the "programs" that are showing as 51% are some of the generic or system programs that do not show up on the the main memory program running function?

could this be a by product of the so called memory leak situation??
Ive heard that a later ROM upgrade may fix this??

"Memory leak situation" is very vague. The h4350 has been in the market for at least 3 years now, and is out of production. There's no more ROM updates for this model, but it's quite stable with Windows Mobile 2003.

Reading the original post again, 51% memory free for Programs is quite good actually. You shouldn't worry about it. For example, the Resco Explorer plugin you run on your Today screen uses memory, but it won't show in the list of active programs. Every today plugin uses memory to run, and other programs that start in the background too.

Best thing you can do is keep the Pocket Internet Explorer cache clear, and make sure you don't have unnecessary programs in your Today screen - for example if you have Spb Pocket Plus and Resco Explorer, both offer the same kind of information and memory usage would be redundant.

thank s for that...using the MAGIC BUTTON program you gave me a link to in previous messages..i now am able to get actuall program usage down to 25%...this is awesome so thanks for the help....where is the link to that the rom update?

Hmmm. Good point. I think the original message had something about Windows Mobile 5, hence the "no ROM upgrade" comment, but yes - that page is full of updates you should have installed on your Pocket PC.
