What do guys think about the below article in GSM Arena?

http://www.gsmarena.com/ceo_stephen_elop_admits_nokias_poor_track_record_has_a_plan-news-2305.php

Would Nokia jump ship to Windows Phone 7 or join the Android bandwagon?

I personally think they should join Android but with their new CEO's link to Microsoft, they might end up with Windows Phone 7.

I agree, time to end Symbian. Go with Android and concentrate on making great phones like they know how in terms of hardware.

Wow. That's a fairly up front evaluation of the situation from the CEO of a big multinational.

AFAIK, Apple don't compete in the mid-range - arguably why Android does so well there.

I'm guessing the Android ecosystem is better/stronger/more-developed than the Windows 7 one (?)

Hopefully Nokia can stay competitive for the sake of the consumer.

I've been a loyal Nokia fan for the last 10 years. This year when it was time to upgrade the oldish E71. I didn't even bother looking at replacing the Nokia for another Nokia, I ended up getting a LG P500 Android 2.2. A nice little phone but definitely lacking the Nokia build quality I've been used to.

I'd love to see a Nokia with either Android or Win7, and would change back if such a device existed.

Nokia is not going android. Nokia staff very recently bad mouthed android few months ago and a tweet today by a google employee mentioned 'two turkeys don't make an eagle'.

Nokia is most prob going windows phone 7 way which is good news.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Google employee is just disgruntled because he was one of the staff who put together a proposal for Nokia to adopt android. Nokia decided to choose something else.

Nokia used to have the best phones . Not bad for an ex-gumboot manufacturing company.

THen, IMHO Nokia lost the plot about 7 years ago.

Their phones became non-intuitive to use, and fiddly. New models were worse than older models. And, then apple gazumped them with the iphone.

Symbian is rubbish. Nokia PC Suites are rubbish too.

It is like, their last-generation UI designers were suddenly asked to build a GUI , and they just had no idea. Nokias had the absolute worst browsers out there.

I think Nokia should now switch to android. They no longer have the resources to develop their own OS, considering dwindling market share . Symbian is Nokia's OS/2.

Not just the OS that's the issue, the phones themselves became so dull and uninspiring and were pretty cheap and nasty to boot which was not the case in the early days.

All started happening as soon as the phones were made outside Scandanavia

Hero to Zero in less than a decade, roll on Android on Nokia. Good OS and (hopefully) good handsets to use as a lot of the current Android offerings are pretty crap outside of the high end HTC and Samsungs

Also they need a cooler name for their OS, symbian sounds a bit Gympish, so how about something Nordic like Thor or Valhalla, or maybe just call it Viking, as in this is a Viking cool phone.

Even naming it after a Viking King ( but maybe not King Cnut ).

So long as they don't stick with Symbian or MeeGo, its good news either to go with Android or WinMo 7

I sincerely hope they don't. A world of Apple, Android or Windows?

yawn.....

But I do hope they get their business back in order and stop being so chicken. The 3650 was such a wild departure, that it was exciting. But boy was it a cr*p, cr*p phone. And they sold millions of the buggers.

Apple and Android is nice. But I've yet to find anything as slender and tiny as my E65, which as much capability. If only it had a faster processor and more modern OS....

I personally think that there will be a natural consolidation in the smartphone OS market over the next few years. Back in the 80s we had a whole lot of different offerings from Apple, Atari, Commodore, BBC, Sinclair, etc. which were all incompatible with each other and history shows that a fragmented software market like that is unsustainable.

I'm predicting that we're in for a two horse race between Google and Apple, although today's announcements suggest that WebOS has some sort of future, and Windows might survive on the fringes if it's lucky. For Nokia adopting Android is less than ideal as it will have them competing with cut price offerings from the Chinese and South Korean manufacturers, so taking a gamble on the long term future of Windows mobile may be a feasible option.
