i saw this tweet that said you could 'rip out the ethernet cable 3 seconds after it starts searching for updates' and that the update would start.... i wasnt that bothered by the delay - didnt "need it now" like half the rest of the world if twitter/forums/blogs is anything to go by - but it sounded like a laugh so i gave it a try.... and it worked. maximum LOL

Hi,

yesterday I updated my LG Optimus 7:

Zune sayed, that i was currently using the latest version (7008) of WP7.
I didn't want to install a VPN client and a dialup.
So i did it as described following:

1. Start Zune
2. Turn off Data connection and Wifi on the Phone
3. Connect the Phone with the PC (USB)
4. Start the update search in Zune
5. About 3 seconds later, disconnect your PC from the internet (Turn WLAN off).
6. Zune finds NoDo-Update. Press OK.
7. Connect to the internet again and install the update.

Should work for all devices that can be updated by the VPN / dialup solution.

If it fails at point 5, try other timepoints for disconnecting, or try it again disconnected.

Yeah I think this whole update thing has been blown waaaay out proportion, most user's couldn't care less if an update was a few months away, the phone pre-nodo was great anyway (my only gripe was marketplace crashing but thats all sorted now).

I didn't need to do this timing thing, after de-branding from Vodafone Zune offered the update straight away (although I guess unlocked phones can't do this, so would need to use timing trick).

Yes, worked for me as well on a Vodafone branded HTC Trophy. Will try on my LG 7 later.

You only need to unplug the computer from the network, no need for any other procedure really...

Was going to just wait it out, but was sitting here thinking what the hell. So now my Surround is running NoDo. Awesome that it works, annoying that you should have to do it this way, I mean if the update is there and it works, why can't they roll it out.

certificate is here. you will need to register on xda-developer forum in order to download the certifcate from below link. if you have a samsung focus, make sure to also run samsung tools after you jailbreak your wp7 so that after you install nodo, it will prevent from re-locking it again since nodo has disabled chevron jailbreak once installed.

does not works on samsung focus from AT&T if that's your device since it carrier branded so you will need to jailbreak first then follow the above instructions in either regs post or my link to install the nodo update, you will see 2 updates. first would be 7008, install that then repeat procedure again and then you will see the march nodo update.

Actually it will work for any operator that have authorised the upgrade. I have my Vodafone-branded HTC Trophy and my Telecom-branded LG 7 both updated today. I've also seen reports from friends in USA and EU that have managed to get their devices updated.

It's a question of timing, you have to try a few times.
