Version 3.6 supports speed limit warnings in Christchurch. Although the limits are inaccurate on quake damaged roads....

My phone seems to acquire a new position much more quickly with the new version of maps and there is now the drive option which gives track up instead of north up which is very nice. A pity it doesn't give your speed when you are using the drive option like it does when using the destination option.

By drive option I mean you select drive from the main menu and just start driving without setting a destination.

It will still alert you if you're speeding in Drive Assist mode. I set my alert threshold to 4km so it tells me if I'm going 5+km over the limit.

That is good to know.

However I presume this only works when the road you're on has limits set in the downloaded maps. Not all roads have limits.

Correct, though these are getting more detailed quite rapidly. Most of the main roads through towns and main roads in the cities now have speed limits, and this all showed up in one update. I can imagine* it increasing quite rapidly from now on.

Re the new 3.6 update.

I attempted several times to install it on my phone (5800xm) but every time it gets most of the way through then tells me I do not have sufficient memory. DL size is stated as 9.4MB and I have 19.8MB free on c: drive. More should become available once the old version of Maps is removed.

Despite this I get an Ovi Suite message saying "Your devices memory is full" and a message on the phone saying "Memory low. Delete or move ..."

Basically the only non-system SW or other of any significance that I have on c: are the paid versions of pdf viewer and QuickOffice. Have been reluctant to attempt to move them to the memory card for fear of loosing my license for them? Besides they only take up a few MB at most. All maps and other data (& most other sw) are stored on the memory card.

So it is not clear what I can delete.

Anyone else had similar problems or know how to force the update?

Should I manually delete the old version of maps first? (How?)

I had this issue too when I went to install the latest version of Ovi maps. I'd had it before when udating maps and doing things like clearing out your cache and deleting all of the text fixed the problem the first time. This last time I ended up doing a hard reset, after a back first. This gave me a considerable amount of extra memory on the C drive.

For some reason the C drive gets clogged up with usless stuff that you cannot see and cannot delete. I did install an app call Y-browser which shows up more files than you see with the normal File manager.

I'm pretty sure you can shift the likes of Quick Office from the C drive to the E drive without having to reload the unlock codes.

If you do a hard reset you may need to reload the unlock codes, I keep a copy of these or for stuff from the Ovi store you should be able to download the paid version again from the MY Downloads page, failing that send them an email and they will see you right. They did for me.

That should be fine. Most apps will be reinstalled automatically when you put the memory card back in. It's not 100% though and depends on where the developers decided to save their files.
