I have an acer 5672 wlmi aspire and an ipaq 1950. I tried to tranfer contacts via the sync program. It appears to work ok ( it says that sync is complete ) but when i check outlook ( 2003 ) I dont find any of my contacts that I have entered to ipaq. The only problem that it appears is that <>. The ActiveSync version is 4.1, outlook is 2003 ( greek edition) and i have norton antivirus 2006.

It sounds as it is configured to synchronise to an Exchange Server, not your Outlook contacts.

Plug the Pocket PC, open ActiveSync, and in the menu you will find an option to configure a server. Click the Delete button, and then click Options to configure the Pocket PC to synchronise locally.

ok..first of all I checked if i accidently entered a server or something and there isn't such a case. I tested autosync with another computer with outlook 2002 installed and worked all right. Is there a chance that there compatibility problems with outlook 2003? I think that is a possibility because HP gave me with autosync 4.1 outlook 2002 instead of the newer version ( maybe they know that it works better 2002 instead of 2003 )

ActiveSync is compatible with Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003. There's no difference in using one or another. In your first message you wrote:

Your server address could not be detected. Choose Configure Server on the ActiveSync menu to enter a server name address

This clearly indicates there's something in this partnership pointing to synchronisation with an Exchange Server.

I recommend you delete this partnership and recreate it. This should solve the problem.

Do I have to tweak some settings on outlook 2003 too? The fact that I dont have an internet connection to my laptop play any role?

Nothing to configure on Outlook 2003.

As for your question on Internet connection - hmmm, yes, Outlook needs an Internet connection to download and send e-mails, so Idon't understand why this wouldn't have it.

I guessed that outlook can transfer data like contacts through an LAN ( a laptop and a ipaq ). For email I understand that an email connection is needed.

The connection from Outlook data to your Pocket PC is through the USB Cable. But Outlook needs to receive the email from somewhere, through the LAN, so I guess your laptop does have a LAN access, right?

As I said, please delete this partnership and recreate it.

I've deleted the partnership, I've installed outlook 2002 ( just in case you never know!! ), I've uninstalled and installed activesync but i still dont understamd why it worked with the desktop and not the laptop. And I've only checked <<contacts>> to be transfered.

ok..basickly the problem was that I named the laptop using greek characters. The result was that It couldnt find the laptop( server), so it couldnt establish the connection. Thanks for the help! IPAQ and activesynk rocks! I was wondering how I would tranfer my data to the laptop and vice versa.
