There are IM programmes for PPC eg Imov that include yahoo messenger.
If you use wifi you should be able to connect.
Im not sure if your device is wifi capable-at a pinch you could probably use a GPRS connection-albeit at some cost in data traffic

IM+ which I have seen a review on Geekzone somewhere,.
Google has others to I believe
