How do you put a hard or soft pause into the Treo 650 when dialing a number with extension?

I can enter ,, or p in the contact details but it just ignores them when i look up the contact and use the green key to dial.
The keypad will refuse to take a p when manualy entering the number?

The trick is to tap on the "More" button at the bottom in the Phone Favorites and then enter the "p" and or ",".  You can't input those in the regular phone number but only in the "More" extra digits screen.
