Does anyone know anything about the availability of the hw6965 in NZ? It is listed on the HP website, and when I call them they say it is available, but no retailer can tell me anything about them. I have tried Ascent, Aquire and Dick Smith to no avail.

Anyone else heard anything about NZ Availability? They have been available in Australia for about 6 weeks now.

Trevor, personally I don't know what's HP stance on the New Zealand market. It's hard to find their Phone Edition devices, and Vodafone doesn't seem too interested in pushing them out into the market.

Any reason why you want a HP? Why not an i-mate device?

I'd say that it will depend on whether Vodafone NZ has tested it and release it for sale in NZ. The device is definitely available, but whether it meets Vodafone network's certification, that will be questionable, but if you get one from Australia, you sure are able to use it (given the way GSM works). Another HP device that is still in the transit with Vodafone is the rw6800.

Mauricio, which iMate device would you recommend then?

I'm not really all that keen on HP per-se (I've had a 3630, 5550, 2200 from them), but I like the form factor of the 65xx/69xx series and had selected the 6965 because it is Windows Mobile 5.0. The JasJar is just too expensive (now being over $2k retail)and too large (although I'd love one, I can't easily clip it to my belt -- mind you, my wife has said she'd divorce me if I did that) and the kJam although nice seems a bit slow.

My requirements are Builtin WiFi and GSM Phone (I'm mainly in NZ and Ausi so Triband is fine), Bluetooth and I would like a separate keyboard. GPS and Cameras are "nice to have" but I don't really care.

Any recommendations then if you think the hw6965 isn't a goer?

They are available in AU (Expansys has 129 in stock) but once again, its expensive though. Expansys have them at AU$1,504.95 (so thats around NZ$1835 + GST + Shipping coming to around $2,099 NZ). I just can't justify spending that much on a handheld.

Dang it all --- I'm really chomping and the bit to get a new handheld (I gave my 5550 to my wife who subsequently lost it) but my limit is around the $1300-1400 range.

Just remembered the other reason I didn't like the KJam, the telescopic stylus --- yuck!

I've got the iMate SP5 and it's not bad. Only GPRS on the data side, but does have built in wifi aswell. Bit of a shame it's not a touch/stylus screen which slows things down a bit, but as a generally unit it's not bad. Nice screen. There is a firmware update for it, but determining which is the latest version on iMates site can take a bit of detective work. You also need to use 3rd party utilities for backup and importing sms's from your sim into the main memory. Almost feels a bit rushed to market without the proper backing behind it. But it does the job. Not sure if the new firmware improves on the utility side. I haven't had a chance to back up all my stuff before I can upgrade the firmware :/
