Hey,

I'm interested in getting a windows 7 phone, could anyone recommend me one thats under $500? The thing im most interested in using it for is playing the Xbox Live games on it, such as Doodle Jump or PvZ.

I'm not interested in getting on contract or a data plan. It has to work also on XT

Thanks :)

XT Compatible WP7 Handsets Currently Out

  • Dell Venue Pro
  • LG Quantum
  • HTC HD7
  • LG Optimus 7
  • LG c900B Quantum
  • Samsing Focus
  • HTC 7 Mozart
  • HTC 7 Surround
Prices range from $600 to $1200. You will NEED a data plan with these phones, and that plan will have to exceed 150mb a month. Mango (7.5 update) just loves sucking data.

That being said it is an amazing OS and I would recommend you go with the HTC phones.

One's I can recommend for XT. Samsung Focus, HTC Mozart, Dell Venue Pro (XT version) or the HTC HD7S. Have a look at mobicity.co.nz

They seem to have the above models in stock.

PS - Wait for another month and the new mango phones with updated hardware are coming out like front facing camera for video calling, better CPU, better GPU, better battery life etc. I would wait to buy the new updated Windows Phones than buy the old gen stuff considering it's about to be released in less than a month.

It's up to the carriers and OEM's to release the products. You can already buy the HTC Radar  from mobicity.co.nz which would work fine on Vodafone or 2Degress.

http://www.mobicity.co.nz/htc-radar.html

Nokia will be revealing their WP7 handsets on 26th October at Nokia world and should be released sometime on November. Samsung has revealed their Samsung Omnia W and Samsung Focus S which should be available in October/November as well. HTC revealed HTC Radar and HTC Titan.

Shame data is soo expensive on prepaid, wish there was a TXT2500 and like 250MB data for $20 a month prepaid, id be fine with that. Instead theres TXT2500 and 50MB data for $18 :/

Telecom has TalkTextData plan on prepaid

$20 per month

20 minutes to NZ landlines/mobile

1000 texts to any NZ mobile

200MB data.

Good value IMO.

You can use a data based texting program. If you have friends with smartphones you can use whatsapp. Remember with a smartphone you can email a lot and WP7 has Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn built tight into the coreOS

I have a Mozart which I quite like. You can get the XT version too. The camera is nice, and the screen isn't too big either.

Just a tip: Make sure you turn off a few of the features, such as "connect to xbox live", wifi searching, phone tracking etc as it sucks up your battery life

I'll be honest, I don't even consider mobile games now without achievements.

It may be sad but I enjoy it :D

There's a distinct lack of good games right now though. Hopefully with mango they start releasing more
