Following on from comments on another thread I though I'd start this one where people can suggest features and functions they would like to see for their Nokia device.  Hopefully the likes of Nic and Brent from Nokia will take the time to read this and if they see something worthwhile they will provide some feedback to the powers that be at Nokia.

I'll kick it off with some ideas I've come up with.  I'll no doubt think of others.  Hopefully other Geekzoners will chime in with ideas of their own.  Maybe just maybe some of these might end up being implemented. Smile

Bluetooth audio support for Nokia Maps on Symbian 3

Allow the turn by turn instructions to be played over the radio or other paired Bluetooth device as is possible on earlier versions of Symbian.

Ability to syncronise documents/files with a PC

One feature I used a lot with my PDA was the ability to synchronise documents between my PDA and PC.  I could edit the document in either place and then synchronise to update on the other device.  I use my phone as my PDA now and this would be a handy feature to have incorporated into Nokia Suite.

Provide for shortcuts directly to documents

The ability to be able to open or go to a document directly from a home screen short cut would be very handy.  It is possible to do this with SPB shell, having this as a standard function would be very useful.

Improvements for texting Symbian 3

I still find using the alpha numeric keyboard and predictive texting the best option when texting in portrait mode. My fingers are average size but I find I regularly hit the bottom row of buttons, especially the menu key, by mistake, moving these keys to the top of the text box out of the way would be better.

When replying to a text there is one more step than necessary in my opinion.  Currently when you hit the reply button you end up on a page where you are asked to "tap to write" which opens up the box where you write your message.  Why not go directly to the message box when you hit the reply button abd cut out one step?

Hows about a Dual-SIM handset, where the secondary sim stays live on a 2G carrier whilst the primary sim uses 3G services (perfect for Roaming).

Don't Nokia do a dual sim phone now, perhaps it's not Symbian 3?

+1 and many more +1s for Bluetooth Audio support for Maps. Worked on my old E52 and the N8 until functionality was suddenly removed by Nokia to my surprise and leaving me stranded as far as maps is concerned. Abilty to create routes with multiple waypoints would be useful if that functionality was restored (was in earlier versions but disappeared in recent ones), but not a real biggie for me.

Talking N8 as base line for me only other real nice to have for me is MSOneNote support but apparantly that is on its way.

I guess POP email could be a bit better particularly option such as in Outlook to force leaving a copy of the email on the server (some servers this happens by default though) but I appreciate it must be a real mission trying to cope with all the idiosyncrocies of all the various email service providers. Also the gymnastics required to set up a POP client needs improving.

For syncing files with an N8 I use Microsoft's SyncToy. I have used that for many years for syncing notebook with computer, PDA's, external drives for backup and now N8 with computer also and is very easy to use and reliable - works for music too. Phone has to be in USB Mass Storage mode.

We have an N8 and an E7 in our household.  My wife has the N8 for it's camera I have the E7 for the keyboard, and those are really the major differences between the two of them, the rest of the functions are pretty much the same.

I didn't know about sync toy, I'll have to check it out.  Would still be nice to be able to do it when I sync with Nokia Suite.

Just downloaded SyncToy.  It looks like it'll do what I want quite nicely. I'll have a play tomorrow, I don't have time to set up the folders tonight.  Thanks for the tip.

I'd like a waterproof Dual-SIM N9 please. Smile

I'd also like it to interface with my polar heart rate monitor strap for when I'm running and cycling and if it could interface with a cycle power and/or cadence sensor, that would be even better.

There is a bluetooth HR strap available from Sports Tracker. The Polar ones aren't bluetooth unfortumately. I wear two straps one for Sports Tracker and one for the Polar cycle computer.

Hmm, I have a 5230 which pairs to my Nokia CK7W carkit and plays the GPS instructions. Works great. I was thinking of upgrading to something like the Nokia C7 (runs Symbian 3) for it's wifi features but it seems from what you are saying it won't work with my car kit (or at least the GPS won't). Can you confirm this?

Correct the version of Nokia Maps that is used on Symbian 3 does not currently support Bluetooth audio to a car kit.  The voice comes out through the loudspeaker on the phone which for some situations is OK.

There is a work around and that is to record a blank mp3 file (about 20 to 30 seconds) i.e one with no sound and play this on a continuous loop on the phone, then connect your phone to play music through your radio via bluetooth.  When music is being played this way any navigation vioce commands will be played over tha radio.  So far as I can tell this means no listening to the radio as it will be muted by the mp3 audio

I'm not sure what is to blame the Symbian 3 OS or the Maps app.  I did read somewhere that Nokia Beta Labs (who develop apps like Nokia maps) wanted the bluetooth functionality but it was removed for some reason.

I think it is a big step backwards and hope it is restored in a later update.

Having said that you will like the C7 and the later version of maps and the integrated apps is very very good.
