I see a few sites are saying Belle is due for release tomorrow. Apparently the Nokia Vietnam site mentioned this date until the info was removed.  I wonder when we will see it here.

A few of the expected changes are;

6 home screens, up from the current 3.
Different sizing for many widgets apparently 5 sizes for some widgets
Widgets for switching various functions like WiFi and Bluetooth on and off
A new status bar
More information on the lock screen
NFC for some devices
Microsoft apps like One Note with Word Excel and Power Point apps to come late on

The inclusion of the native Microsoft apps is the first for any non MS OS.  I'm pretty keen to try them out.

The release has started and the status of Belle availability for individual product codes is available at http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/nokia-belle-update/nokia-belle-update-availability .

Unfortunately my 059C7R0 (N8 Vodafone NZ) isn't listed at present even though the listing is supposed to include those product codes for which there will never be an update - I hope Vodafone/Nokia NZ are not going to let us down on this update.

@John2010

Have you tried updating via Nokia Suite?
If I do a check for my code (0599250) through the phone, there is no update.

However, it's currently in the process of updating to Belle (via Nokia Suite) as I type

Yes, I have checked with Nokia Suite, but I am in no great panic to get the update as I have no problems with the phone's operation as it is, just would like it sometime in the nearish future so as to have access to some of the newer apps such as MSOneNote.

As I said the product code of my phone is not even listed as an existing product in the link I gave (that list is supposed to include all product codes, including ones which will never get the update). The code not being (as of now) in the list is my main interest.

I see it's now being branded as Nokia Belle.

The Belle update page on the Nokia site shows the update is avialable for my E7 though I haven't tried to update yet.

What is very very disappointing is according to the Nokia belle page my wife's N8 which was supplied through Nokia New Zealand will never get the Belle update.  This is extremely disappointing.  I hope this doesn't apply to too many other New Zealand Nokia owners.  What's going on Nokia?

Why 059C7R0 (N8 Vodafone NZ) is not on the availability list is being investigated but in the meantime I see that some have reported having received the update for that code this morning.

Vodafone NZ had Anna approved for the first release of that update so it appears they have done the same for Belle. If so, kudos to them.

Am away travelling at the moment and only OTA available so can't do the update but will see what happens when I get home.

Looks like there are several apps that currently work on Anna that are not yet able to work on Belle.  There's a list here http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/nokia-belle-update/nokia-belle-update-faq under the Nokia Bell and applications tab then look under Overview of apps not yet compatible or here
 http://europe.nokia.com/EUROPE_NOKIA_COM_3/Find_products/Belle-Software-Update/non-compatible-apps.html

If you're particularly fond of any of the apps it might pay to wait until they are compatible before upgrading to Belle.

I'm suspicious that I may lose Quick Office during the upgrade since it was pre packaged originally with the phone. It seems all apps will need to be reloaded after the upgrade and since it's not on my list on Nokia Store I'm afraid I'll have to pay to re install.  Once the Microsoft apps package is available it probably won't matter but until then I need the be able to read and create documents.

It seems that three countries wont get the Belle upgrade, Australia, Canada and South Korea. Apparently because the operators in these countries have elected not to distribute the upgrade.  I'd be a more than a little miffed if I were in one of those countries having a Telco stop me from getting the latest software.  Who do these guys think they are?

On a similar note as I mentioned earlier my wife's N8 is one of those that won't get the upgrade.  It has an Australian product code yet it was bought here in New Zealand.  I wonder whether Nokia New Zealand can come to the party on this since it was bought here in New Zealand.

I have the same product code as you. I wonder how long it will be!

I did the update this afternoon.  It went very smoothly, the longest time was spent re-installing many of the apps though this went very smoothly as well.  In the process I've added a few more to the phone while in the Nokia store.  The Nokia screen saver app is very nice.

I haven't had a real chance to really play and find out all the new tweaks that Belle brings but so far am quite impressed.  I've spent most of the time so far arranging what I want on the various screens.

The drop down notifications screen is a nice touch, the email widgets are also good.  Having the shortcut name displayed is also an improvement.

coffeebaron: Vodafone N8-00 059C7R0 Waiting for approval

I see that it has now advanced to "Nokia Belle updates in planning = Nokia is currently together with the local operators evaluating and planning the Nokia Belle rollout."

On the 10th Feb Nikrolls said would be available "soon" so perhaps it has now advanced to being available "sooner than soon" Wink.

EDIT: deleted Nokia links mysteriously picked up from copy and paste of the availability status text from their site.

Some brief thoughts so far.

Being able to reposition widgets and short cuts around the screen is nice.

The tap to write function at the bottom of the text page is great, it much quicker saving you having to open the text then tap to write.

The removal of the remote drive option is very disappointing, hope that is brought back either as an upgrade or an app through the Nokia Store.

It would be nice to to be able to add and remove items from the notifications drop down screen, most notably having the "Offline " option being one of the choices.  The "Silent" profile is there which I hardly use but the "Offline" option which I use every day, usually several times in a day, isn't there and it would be nice to be able add it.

I'll add more as time goes along.

Hi.
Has anyone had an upgrade to Belle on the C7. Still hasn't came up on my Nokia suite yet?

Hopping in on an old thread, but I take it that nobody's had the Belle upgrade via Nokia Suite yet? I can see it on Nokia's servers, for NZ product codes, but it's not showing up on Suite or in Software Updater.

Guess I'll have to manually flash the phone again.
