No when you buy software you don't get the source code... its proprietary. Unless you buy open source

I think you got it wrong. Check this on Wikipedia: Open Source. The fact is that most software is Closed Source, where you purchase a licence to use it, but not the source code.

If you want to develop your skills, better look for information aimed at developers. Buying someone else's software and trying to learn from that is not the best or easiest way.
