Hi,

We have an Xbox One in our house, with a live subscription for gaming.

We've just added an Xbox Series X.

I had planned to move the One to another room with the idea that the kids could multiplayer star wars battle front etc.

What should I do in terms of setting this up:

Do I/Can I sign into both with the same Microsoft account?

Do I need to purchase games twice to use this and play on each?

Do I need to subscribe to Live twice so each can connect?

I really hadn't thought this one right through in advance and looking for guidance here please?

From what I know it’s just like PS, your main account with all the games and subscriptions for online multiplayer can make a device the ‘primary’ or ‘home’ device which shares everything with any other logged in account.

So if you are intending to play ‘online’ and not split-screen, you will need to have a second account for the second player. Login to both devices with the main account and download games etc. then make the device the second account will play on the ‘home’ for the main account. Second account will have access to the games and live subscription of the main account.

The non-home xbox that the main account logs into will retain everything despite not being the home device, it just means other accounts won’t be able to access stuff that it doesn’t own, they have to login to the home-device.

Yeah have signed into both and received the 'you can't play a game more than once' type message.

The second account will be able to play the game when it is logged in.

First make the xbox series X your home account console, install digital games / game pass etc. Reboot, Now all other adult user accounts on that series X can now use its digital content and play online.

Profile & system > Settings > General > Personalisation, and then select My home Xbox.

Now on the xbox one only the home account will be able use any digital content belonging to that account and game pass / live features.

Kids should login onto series x using their own "adult" accounts.

To play a single digital purchase or a game pass game multiplayer it can only be kids(series x) vs your home account(xbox one). Make sure the home account is logged out of the series X first to avoid errors.

Kids accounts can cause issues with restrictions, ratings, permissions, chat etc. So best just to make the all adult.
