Wow, that PS5 is huge - didn’t realise how big when it was photographed on its own.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
I ended up buying from the warehouse using zip. Scammy places that want the full amount upfront. Couldnt do ebgames because work blocks it because "games" and JB are quite happy to take your money for a preorder alongside a warning that preordering doesnt mean you will get it. Oh dear JB, thats not how preorders work.
So I am hoping that the warehouse will have a midnight opening for click and collect because I do not trust them to deliver anything.

Yeah - I first ordered from JB because MA and others were already sold out online, then thought about that non-commitment on JB’s part and wasn’t happy. Also, you can’t pick up - courier only - which feels like it’s less under my control.
So went to NL with pick up - then went back to JB and cancelled.

Is it just me or the NZ pricing isn't a rip off for once?
The disc version in the UK is priced at £449.99 --> That's $NZD886.
While in NZ, for the same unit it's $819.00.
In the US, the unit is priced at $499+taxes or about $531 including taxes --> That's $790NZD, however they don't have the same consumer protection as we do (CGT).

I wish the discless version was viable, but we get price gouged on digital versions when they should in fact be half of the retail since we're avoiding shipping a physical item, paying staff to sell it etc.
Couldn't agree more! It's an absolute rort that digital isn't half the cost of a physical disk let alone MORE expensive!
You'd have to be a betting person to not beholden to the whims of a gaming company

It will be the digital edition for me. I've been exclusively digital since the PS4 was launched back 2014 and I have no need for a UHD BluRay drive as I stream everything. I find that with a couple of overseas PS accounts setup and sites like PSPrices below to monitor what's on sale I can generally offset the digital price premium. I just can't be arsed with physical media anymore.

Interesting angle using overseas PS accounts. Doesn't that cause havoc with your PSN subscription attached to each profile? Quite a few games don't let you share the profile content (Division for example).
Personally, the fact you can swap discs with mates makes the $170 extra of the disc version a no-brainer. If you swap/lend/borrow only a couple of games you've more than made up for the price difference of the console.

Not very interesting to me tbh.
It seems to be a one off dump of games rather than an ongoing service and requires PS+ which I don't subscribe to as I have no desire to play online with people.
Yes it appears to just be a bunch of games, which is less value proposition if you don't have PS+. If you do (most people?) it is a 'nice extra' but nothing revolutionary. The Xbox subscription model sounds more future-proof and valuable. However it is a lot more expensive than PS+ if that matters to you at all.

That’s one reason why I bought the disc version of PS5. Disc versions of games can be cheaper (thanks to competition between MA, JB, EB, TWL etc) and you can on-sell them when finished - can’t do that with a download. This is a form of recycling that reduces the effective cost of a game and gives someone else the opportunity to get a game at a cheaper price.

I think this is an interesting article. Despite some PS5 games being a bit more expensive than PS4 games, taking into account inflation and time, current PS games are effectively a lot cheaper now than they were when the original PS was released.

Pick a master account, call it your NZ one. This is the only account that you need to have a PS Plus subscription for and the only account that you'll actually use in play. Set up overseas accounts (US, CA, UK, DE are all popular). Log in to your PS4 with each account and set that PS4 as your primary console. Log back in on your master account. Any games that you buy on an overseas account will be playable on your NZ master account as that PS4 has been designated as the primary console for your other accounts.
Its a bit of work to setup at first but once set its really easy. The Canadian store often has very good sales and works better than the US store with the CAD-NZD conversion.
Anyway its all a moot point now as I pre-ordered the disc version as when I went to Mighty Ape they were quoting Dec-18 availability for the discless version.
One thing that appears to be still below the commentators’ radar is that Sony has not yet revealed the new OS or interface that will be on the PS5. This is surprising because you’d think that a snazzy new GUI would help PS5 sales if it was publicised.
Edit: Looks like it’s not far away - just saw these recent stories:

I'm not really surprised the PS5 is so long since it's quite thin. What I am surprised with is that they don't have a black model, I imagine a lot of people would like it to blend in with the other home theatre devices.
Edit: Should add. I still haven't decided on a game yet. If Cyberpunk is released in time I will get that, otherwise I'm not super sold on the games as of yet. Anyone else see the Hogwarts Legacy game? I'm in no way a Harry Potter fan but that game looked pretty cool!
I have $200 in Mighty Ape credit I've been saving for this plus a $100 prezzy card lying around, but was a bit too slow for the pre-order yesterday so will wait for the 2nd batch to become available. Also have my birthday next month so if family give Mighty Ape voucher or money again I'll get up to a decent amount of it already covered.
