I'm not really surprised the PS5 is so long since it's quite thin. What I am surprised with is that they don't have a black model, I imagine a lot of people would like it to blend in with the other home theatre devices.

Edit: Should add. I still haven't decided on a game yet. If Cyberpunk is released in time I will get that, otherwise I'm not super sold on the games as of yet. Anyone else see the Hogwarts Legacy game? I'm in no way a Harry Potter fan but that game looked pretty cool!

Yep, noticed that HP game - also thought it looked interesting.

However Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for me.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Pick a master account, call it your NZ one. This is the only account that you need to have a PS Plus subscription for and the only account that you'll actually use in play. Set up overseas accounts (US, CA, UK, DE are all popular). Log in to your PS4 with each account and set that PS4 as your primary console. Log back in on your master account. Any games that you buy on an overseas account will be playable on your NZ master account as that PS4 has been designated as the primary console for your other accounts.

Its a bit of work to setup at first but once set its really easy. The Canadian store often has very good sales and works better than the US store with the CAD-NZD conversion.

Anyway its all a moot point now as I pre-ordered the disc version as when I went to Mighty Ape they were quoting Dec-18 availability for the discless version.

Not sure that sounds easier than using discs. I mean you can still download on the disc model.
My point being, the disc 2nd-hand market means that there is almost always a physical version that is cheaper than the digital copy. Borrowing is even cheaper. If you're desperate for it, and find it convenient you can still download a digital copy and pay the premium.

Good call on the disc version - I encourage everyone to do this to keep discs available as an option. Once you are finished with the disc I also encourage people to look at local facilities that may appreciate them - if not worth selling of course (I'm not trying to guilt trip anyone just if it ends up only being worth a few dollars). There's a number of children hospitals that will be super grateful for any donations.
Cheers

I am thinking of starting with the spider man and ratchet and clank games. They looked good from what I saw and hoping they'll do the new machine justice.

Bugs in first version of console is a common thing is it? What's the evidence of that?

Early PS4s had ejector screw faults that caused spontaneous disc ejection, early PSXs had laser positioning failures...not away of any others but they definitely happen.

and later models had zero issues? What is a PSX?

I've never heard of any of these so must be extremely rare. Got any source data?

PS4: https://venturebeat.com/2015/12/14/is-your-playstation-4-randomly-ejecting-discs-heres-a-few-fixes/

PSX is (showing my age) what the big bulky grey Playstation was referred to before there was ever a whisper of a Playstation 2, and before the smaller white PSOne came and muddied the waters. There were lots of little revisions to those over time though, like the Gameshark port disappearing (boo). That happens with any product though, things change over a product life cycle to take advantage of cheaper/better parts or to fix reliability problems.

Original PlayStation, eg PS1.

The early Xbox 360's had a tendency to get The Red Ring of Death, usually caused by excessive heat. A redesign fixed that.

Interesting, I've never heard it described as a Gameshark port, I always thought it was intended to just be a generic expansion port. I had an Xplorer cartridge that I plugged into mine, which was a sort of super-Action Replay cartridge, and that in turn was hooked up to my PC so I could examine and alter the PSX's memory in order to make my own cheats. Great fun!

I had the original PlayStation - in fact had 2 -chipped and non. Great machine! Didn't know they are referred to anything but PS 1!  I remember leaving Resident Evil on pause for hours/overnight whilst went out partying because was too far away from a save point!

I lot of the revisions are miniaturisation and to meet a new price point too. PS3 original was lot better machine at launch than later versions with removal of ports and functionality.

Ah yes I remember the red ring of death palaver.
I was referring to any common PlayStation issues that were 'fixed' in later versions - other than reduction of noise.

Personally i never had any issues with PS3/PS4 day one and hoping it will continue that way with the PS5, however not to say there might not be faulty system here and there at launch but the same could be said with the later model even after revision. Most issue can be fixed via system update nowadays anyway and worst case scenario that's when warranty comes to effect :)

PSX stands for "Play Station eXperiment", the original codename for the Playstation. The Nintendo Wii had the codename Revolution which is why the Wii's model numbers all start with "RVL", eg RVL-101, RVL-201, etc.

Sony did actually make a product called the PSX, but it was a digital video recorder that included a PS2.

Interesting about the PSX naming! I guess it never was in the common zeitgeist.

the actual PSX product is super unique!
