Spent a few hours acquiring licences and a few races completed.  I've levelled up to 10.

So, after 10 levels...

I've played the GT series since the beginning.  GT was the reason I purchased a Playstation and Playstation2.  Keeping with the trend I managed to secure a new 320GB Slim Console last week with GT5.  Thankfully I had an outstanding insurance credit so it was half price.  The short of it.  They spent this much time on this game for what?  I am hugely disappointed at what they have delivered.  The intro had me entertained and that is just about where it ended.  I have completed the first three licenses to get a feel for several cars and how they handle.  I don’t know whether I am so used to the physics that Forza3 has or the XB360 controller but the handling on various cars feels jerky.  It’s difficult to explain.  It feels like the cars pull quite violently in some cases.  Other concerns obviously include the huge loading times.  I was surprised having spent over 40 minutes to install the game that the load times were as long as they are.  The cars detail on standard cars feel like they’ve been stripped right out of GT4 and dropped into this game with little effort.  I have seen a few of the premium cars and they are far nicer.

I won’t give up on it now.  I’ve already seen patches 1.01 and 1.02 arrive today.   I would like to get a hold of the release notes.  Any links anyone?  Is there anything in-game where you can check what has been introduced?  There was a little news pieces.  Might check that…

JarrodM: Has anyone managed to get Gold on the Top Gear special event? I've only manage silver on beginner and bronze on intermediate. Once you get gold you unlock the track to use in practice and arcade.

Got gold on both, with the VW van really late brake and powerslide it past two vans on the first corner, then the rest is all slipstreaming and late breaking...it took me quite a few attempts on that one and the Lotus second one.   My main problem with the AI is they brake too early and I slam into them.  Haven't attempted the advanced one yet, but will try it soon!

Anyone played much multiplayer?  It's pretty fun, although it seems as if someone is coming last and spins, they just start driving the wrong way and try hitting you!!  that's pretty much all I used to do in the first GT

Popped out this morning to perform some errands, and got home find my copy of GT5 sitting on the back door step. It was meant to be a signed item, but I guess this is the sort of preferential treatment one gets when they are on a first name basis with their courier driver :-)

The disc was not sitting in its holder though, so was rattling around loose. It doesn't look scratched, but it will be interesting to see what the FlyBuys return policy is, should I have to use it.

Just the standard version.. I couldn't justify to myself getting the 'signature' edition just for a key ring..

Well, so far it seems to work OK... although my cars have an annoying habit of spinning out and crashing into things. Don't think I can attribute that to a scratched disc though. :-)

Has anyone else noticed a strange 'artfacting' with ghost cars when there is smoke/dirt being kicked up? It makes the ghost car appear banded between ghost and the smoke being produced. Not a big deal, but not exactly polished.

Hehe, I like my 340 hp civic :)

On a side note, anyone got the '89 (or 91 I forget) Suzuki Swift GTi?

I have had three of them IRL and would kill to get one in the game!

I have actually noticed this phenomenon on the regular cars, not just ghost cars.
It looks like the edges of the car have a band of grey/white blocky-ness when there is smoke/dirt being kicked up around the car.

I have also definitely noticed screen tearing - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing
It seems to happen the most when I am turning corners, so obviously it is related to the panning motion of the camera.

Other than that, it is a truly epic game. Many, many hours of fun to be had yet.

I took a look in the shops.

Bit of a yawn factor if you ask me (I have bought most of the GT series for PS2/and prologue for the ps3).

I was going to buy this, but I'm unconvinced having played it now.
