I have just finished Elden Ring - started in early May - six months and 750 hours play according to the game log.

At first I disliked it and was totally lost. It was so difficult that I resigned myself to having to play it at a superficial level and was thinking that I’d just forget about trying to kill bosses. When I looked for help online, the experienced players smugly say you just have to ‘get good’ (‘git gud’ in their terminology).

Anyway I chipped away at it and gradually got better and better. After a couple of months I really got a feel for it and went on to buy the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, and completed that before going back to finish the main game. Ended up clearing both of the maps of all enemies and collectables in my normal OCD playing-style. However I have to admit that some of the bosses were still excruciatingly difficult so I got a PS Plus subscription and that enabled me to summon other players online to help me with a few of those bosses. Some of the other notoriously difficult bosses I actually found quite easy.

Ended up at Level 240 (which isn’t bad even if I say it myself) and at that level you need about 500,000 xp points (runes) to gain each extra level. I did indulge in a bit of rune-farming to get there. Got 28 of the 32 trophies - even though I wasn’t specifically trying for them.

The ER lore left me a bit cold and the so-called story line was of little interest to me. Nonetheless an incredible game - a masterpiece IMO - massive, deep and complex. Ended up totally loving it and it’s probably spoilt me for future games in some ways. Now I’m scratching round trying to decide what to play next.

My concern that the unexpected successful and positive experience I had with the difficult and complex Elden Ring has spoilt me for some future games, has proved correct. I bought and played Spider-Man 2 and it seemed simplistic, trivial and juvenile. It’s a well-made game but I struggled to enjoy it.

I have now bought the 2020 remake for PS5 of Demon’s Souls - a spiritual predecessor of ER. This is a huge change for me - I knew about Soulslike games and actively avoided them because of their difficulty and the lack of a save mechanic. Earlier this year I would never have considered buying DS.

I’ve been playing it for only a few hours and find that it too has a steep learning curve - but having played ER helps a bit. However I can tell already that I’m going to really love this game. It’s a completely different feeling to Spider-Man 2.

With my altered outlook, it will be interesting to see how I find Assassin's Creed Shadows when it releases in February. Historically AC has been one of my favourite genres/franchises. I'm sure it will still be good.

Fromsoft soulslike tend to be a touch vague on story. Games like spiderman you would expect the story of Peter etc. compels people a bit more to play through it.

Back on-topic, supporting our local business by playing Path of Exile 2 haha

It’s a bit easier to get into than the first one, lot of friends coming out of the woodwork to play something akin to diablo.

I've completed Astrobot, aparently. The end credits came up as the main story was complete but I'm about 12 bots short as I haven't completed all of the side missions. Some of those are bloody tough, not sure I want to grind it out especially as there's no respawn point so you have to restart each one from the begining each time.

Marvel Rivals is a run casual go with friends. It’s not very balanced so quick play only, but it’s a lot more entertaining than Overwatch per character especially with the Marvell franchise factor.

It’s anti-cheat works on linux proton as well as the game running well on Steam Deck.

Just saw an update on ACS on Engadget. It includes a trailer (not sure whether it's a new one) and 15 mins of extended gameplay. Japan looks suitably pretty. The melee combat looks a bit stilted to me but the stealth looks good.

Still looking forward to it but as mentioned earlier I may have been permanently spoiled against simpler games by playing Elden Ring and Demon's Souls. I'm about half-way through DS and it's extremely tough but I'm enjoying it very much.

Back to Cyberpunk 2077 as I didn’t get around to finishing Phantom Liberty. Nvidia also released their new transformer models for DLSS so going to play around with it and path tracing to see how the image quality turns out.

Today I stumbled across Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 which has just been released. It has received widespread acclaim. I have never heard of it or its predecessor and this is a pleasant surprise. I’m about 2/3 through Demon’s Souls but at my rate of progress it may be a while before I finish it. Once that’s done, I think KCD2 will be my next stop.

I’m pleased to see that it’s available on physical disc - my definite preference.

Just finished the main story of Spiderman 2 and really enjoyed it. Currently working my way through collecting all the bits and pieces floating around the map. It's a good game to put a few hours in a week just zipping around the city and beating up people and figuring out the best combos etc. Not sure what I'll go to next....probably back to Football Manager 2024 hahahaha

Had a cull of installed games.... have 4 in total installed.

Chillout - Sims 4

Single player to complete - Subnautica

M/player - PUBG and LOTR:Return to Moria

Will not be playing any other single player until I have completed Subnautica. Have way too many games to play, and figured I'll start going through one by one to completion :) Then my mates will pick another one for me to start.

Currently addicted to Saga Emerald beyond. Extremely weird game but the battle system is incredible. I haven't been able to put the game down.
