Finished Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and thoroughly enjoyed it - a truly excellent open-world RPG game made with very high production values.

Recently started Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Another wonderful game from the AC franchise - made with even higher production values than KCD2. Looks fantastic on PS5 Pro. Going to have many long happy hours there. Anyone else playing it?

I am playing Shadows. It's very pretty. The sound is absolutely incredible. I can not highly enough recommend a decent pair of headphones esp during rainy seasons.

It has a number of significant annoyances for me. There is a slight lag to some actions I don't love.

I do love how quickly Noae moves and climbs.

For me, it's not nearly as good as Odyssey, if you haven't played that, I highly recommend it as the most fun of the AC Series.

I’ve played every AC game released over the past 15 years or so. Some have been better than others but I enjoyed them all. TBH I don’t remember enough about the individual differences in their play mechanics to be able to compare and contrast now. However, after about 12 hours play, although I’ve only scratched the surface, I am sure that ACS will be at or near the top my AC list.

It feels endless. I am unsure how many hours in I am, at least 20, doing lots of sidequests but I am sure I'll actually get bored with it at some stage in the not too distant future.

I had only opened 50% of the map in Odyssey by around hour 100, so feeling endless isn't just a feeling....it seems to be the reality at Ubisoft these days.

Some games are huge and can suck up a lot of time. I spent about 750 hours on Elden Ring and 200 on each of Demon’s Souls and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

However I have time on my hands and if a game is at least moderately good, I’m happy to while away the time. ACS easily meets my modest criteria so I’m in.

Obsessed with XCOM 2 still. Have now started a War of the Chosen campaign and am thoroughly enjoying it. Coincidentally an XCOM bundle is now on Humble Bundle. If you haven't already got the games, I thoroughly recommend them.

Have recently finished Assassin’s Creed Shadows on PS5. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s massive - which meant playing my normal ‘clear the map, collect everything’ approach took an extremely long time.

Have been playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for a few weeks. Was surprised to find that it’s primarily a stealth game - suits me - my favoured genre. Finding it hard to get used to because the UI is not at all intuitive and there’s almost nothing in the way of tutorials or explanations. Have had to google a lot to work how to do stuff. However slowly getting used to it and I can tell that it’s really going to be a cracker of a game.

Just finished Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5. Wonderful game - so much fun. It’s a big game, beautifully designed and made and is rock-solid. There was not one issue in 80 hours of gameplay. As usual, I tried to complete and collect everything and got 100% completion.

I normally have no interest in trophies but by doing everything I also got close to 100% of the trophies - so I went for the few remaining ones and got them all for a Platinum. First time I’ve done that - the 14-yo in me was quite chuffed.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is somewhat unusual in that (unlike, say, Assassins Creed) you get no XP for killing enemies. You get better fighting skills and knowledge by collecting stuff. There’s also no weapons in your inventory apart from Indy’s trademark bullwhip and pistol - inventory is very small. Stealth is great but when you need to take out an enemy, you can use your fists or pick up a weapon (which you can’t store  and will break after a few hits).

I barely used the pistol (or other guns able to be picked up) because the melee combat is much more fun. My inner 14-yo got a lot of satisfaction out of whip-cracking enemies in the nuts  - or on their hand, causing them to drop their weapon which you can pick up to deal to them. You can hit enemies with fists or a weapon - or, if you sneak up behind them, bring a truncheon or a sledgehammer up between their legs to weaken them. Definitely juvenile - but fun. Apart from the somewhat comic violence, there’s no swearing, dismemberment, gore or sex - good wholesome stuff.

So, I played AC: Shadows. I think it was better than OK, but not as good as my two favourites, being Odyssey and Black Flag (remake in November apparently!). I discovered again that I don't really care about the story, I play games for the missions.

In between, I decided to try Doom : Dark Ages.  What a blast it is. I get it part of my Xbox Game Pass Subscription and played it on my widescreen OLED monitor and it's amazing. Then I went on holiday for a few days and enjoyed the experience on the Xbox where it resumed my progress, an unexpected, but really pleasant surprise.

I highly recommend it.
