Hey heads up I got charged twice for my ps5 preorder rang Noel Leemings to check and they refunded me. Check your accounts!

During my attempt to preorder it came up with a NL page error no transaction errors. Tried again and it worked. I received one e-receipt but nothing for the second. Apparently I legitimately preordered two but I cancelled one preorder (sorry to anyone who missed out).

If my account was in the millions I might not have noticed and with no email records of the second purchase.

lNomNoml:

Waiting till a Horizon forbidden west bundle makes it appearance next year after a second edition of the console has been released fixing the bugs with the first.

Have you got that list of issues with PlayStation first edition models?

Fortunately I was only charged once, but thanks for pointing it out.

JB Hifi sent me an email today confirming that I got in early enough to be certain of getting my PS5 on release.

Nice!

Ah yes I remember the red ring of death palaver.
I was referring to any common PlayStation issues that were 'fixed' in later versions - other than reduction of noise.

Didn't the PS3 have the yellow light of death? I don't think it was as common as the Xbox RROD but I remember it being a thing that killed a few PlayStation's. Feel like ms learnt a lot from the RROD considering the size of the cooling fans and ducts on the Xbox ones and the new consoles.

I've tried to find some statistical data on first models of pkaystations having faults, but can't find anything showing a trend.
It was an interesting comment but I think it may have just been bitterness on missing out on a pre-order but happy to be proved wrong!
Not sure why the xbox red ring keeps being brought up. It's pretty old, well known, and a Microsoft product and this is a playstation thread. Just not sure the relationship!
Cheers

I don't think this hardware failure thing is a big deal as there is a reason why WARRANTY exist. We are supposed to discuss PS5 related info updates such as pre-orders, games, bundles or anything about PS5 coming out of developers or sony that might affect purchasing a PS5 now or in the future. plus let's see how reliable or unreliable the system is once it's released.

I think since people are just concerned that launch models have defects. So many 360 had the RROD, the switch had poor joy con reception and joy con drift, PS3 had ylod. Unfortunately any design flaws tend to take a while to come to light so we won't know for a while. The joys of being an early adopter. And those that do get stung are the enthusiasts dropping $800 at launch and will be stung again for their dedication to their hobby, just the way it is.

As I said Ms particularly have clearly learnt a valuable lesson from the RROD as all consoles since have very obviously made cooling a core element to their design. I'm hoping Sony with the ps5 have listened to feedback that ps4s tend to sound like jet engines and worked on reducing the noise. There's a tonne of vents on the thing but I'm not entirely convinced by it's design being optimised for air flow, but we will have to wait and see how it goes when they arrive and since YouTubers rip them open.

I totally understand where some people are coming from and specially with past experiences such as RROD or YLOD. However, I believe that there was a huge improvement from ps360 era to current generation of consoles in terms of reliability and I am counting on both companies to improve on this even more. In addition, if people are going to be paranoid over things like these and stop them from purchasing consoles and enjoying entertainment, then I don't think it's worth it, but that's just my opinion. plus there's always an option of purchasing an extended warranty as an option to give piece of mind. I say get what you get and enjoy life as no body knows what's going to happen the next day. we could live/die/get sick so best to enjoy what you enjoy while you can physically socially mentally and financially πŸ™‚

Well put - my view too. I’m not going to agonise over whether the PS5 will be faulty on launch and let paranoia on that put me off buying it on Day 1. I’m not going to worry that the Sony engineers who have worked on this for years have not got the airflow worked out properly and that it’s going to be noisy as a result. Jeez.

Life’s short - enjoy it.

And in the highly unlikely event that there’s a problem, it’s only a first-world problem.

To be fair to them all as well, as much of a mess as all the flaws I mentioned were, I got both my 360 reps and my joy con issues fixed outside of the standard warranties. It took a lot of pressure but the companies did eventually take responsibility for the problems.

It sounds petty but I hate noisy console fans, just distracts from a quiet scene in a movie or game when all you can hear over the top is a fan working in overdrive. I think I just need to get over it and use headphones instead, the sounds better using then anyway.

I do recall their being a yellow light issue. Think it was a power supply issue with the soldering wasn't it caused by lead-free solder.
I think it was minor compared to the red ring of death.

Some PS4's turned off too didn't they?
But it was very uncommon and was due to poor airflow I believe.

Couldn't agree more - but the original poster was suggesting pre-ordering was a mistake as first generation consoles were notorious for failures.

From PlayStation twitter account [https://mobile.twitter.com/PlayStation/status/1307364082341740544]

β€œ Let’s be honest: PS5 preorders could have been a lot smoother. We truly apologize for that.

Over the next few days, we will release more PS5 consoles for preorder – retailers will share more details.

And more PS5s will be available through the end of the year.”

The US moratorium was broken early but not sure it was here in NZ. Be interesting to see if they do manage to ship more product down here. Oceania is usually an accounting correction in terms of market share.
Fingers crossed!
