If you're doing it online, no payment required (but a credit card will need to be entered).

In store, you could use your gift card.

Thanks for that. Hopefully if I order online, they can take an in-store payment with the gift card.

I first ordered with JB then cancelled, due (a) to them saying “no guarantee you’ll get it in the first echelon” and (b) no pickup, delivery only. Pretty sure that what I saw when they confirmed my order said they would debit my card three days prior to delivery - so you may not get the opportunity to use the gift card in-store.

@ShinyChrome Just checked and JB said “Full payment will not be taken from your card until the item is dispatched to you”. This may still not give you a chance to use the gift card because it’s likely to happen before you are aware it’s happening.

Noel Leeming on the other hand have taken all the money from my card already - not great but I’m not too concerned about that.

Did you manage to pre-order elsewhere?
A mate of mine pre-ordered with JB but we were both worried as no guarantee. He has since got an email confirming that he is receiving it on launch day but it was a concern!

I've never not been able to pre-order a console before. I'm getting a little worried I won't get one on launch.

Do JB do an authorization on the card at the time of preordering? My card has taken a signifigant hit because of the PS5 and it seems that turning your limit up is not as easy as turning it down, which had I known I would not have turned it down.

I haven't pre-ordered a console either!
Who did you order from/through?

@LeatheryHawkeye “@ eracode: Did you manage to pre-order elsewhere?”

Yes - on that first morning, I ordered with JB - didn’t like their T&Cs - ordered with NL - then cancelled the JB order once I had received NL’s confirmation.

Nice one! Exciting times!

What was wrong with JB? Was it the non-guarantee of order?

Wonder if it's going to come with an HDMI 2.1 cable out of the box. Surely, right?

epcj:

Hi guys,

I am a bit confused with all the information regarding the TV situation surrounding the launch of the PS5.

I understand that the games for PS5 will be backwards compatible to full HD TVs, but I am planning on upgrading my TV anyway.

Do I have to get an HDMI 2.1 compatible TV to take advantage of gaming on a 4K TV, or will any 4K TV do the job? If it's the former, how do I find TVs with this functionality?

Cheers

Just saw this recent story on this point:

The more I think about, I think it might be best to wait until the consoles are out and people have tested them on the TV's to see if specs and reality actually meet up.

TV's only get cheaper with time. 😬

What will you do if specs and reality don’t line up - not buy PS5 and/or new telly? How long would you wait? Even if they don’t line up, the specs on the new consoles are pretty darned good and you’ll still have a lot of fun. The differences between 8K/4K or 4K/1440p are nice to have (I want them too) but only eye-candy and first-world. Nevertheless if I find I need an HDMI 2.1 cable for PS5 because Sony didn’t include it, I’ll be the first to go out and buy one.

There’s always something new and better just around the corner. I feel if you start waiting for that, you can delay forever. Need to put a stake in the ground and go for it - life’s short.

I noticed the Sony tvs have a redemption deal with a free soundbar. Once this deal finishes I’m sure the price will drop and be similar to the Aussie price.

Don’t forget the ps vr. I’d be interested in performance difference especially with the new Star Wars And HOTAS support

Yeah, I reread what I wrote and it could be clearer. Sorry about that 🤦. I agree, buy the consoles now. The price savings for waiting to buy a new console are pretty small. Quality of life improvements with that super fast SSD will be enjoyed right now.

My thought was: Wait on buying a TV. The consoles spec/performance is basically fixed. So I think it's best to wait on buying a TV until they have been tested with the new consoles and then grab one that is fully compatible with all the cool new features and doesn't have any little 'quirks'.

I am *cough* old *cough enough to remember when 'The Matrix' came out on DVD. It did a lot of things in the DVD spec that a lot of players at the time had trouble with and some people had to buy new DVD players.

Doubtful that will happen with the TV's but you never know. You should be able to buy a TV easily when the console gets delivered. 😬
