No idea what you are talking about. I've not ONCE have a compatibility issue with HDMI. Plenty without. I would say I have at LEAST 10 devices in my house today that use it in one form or another. In the last year I would have easily have another 10.

Google hdcp handshaking problems.

I get HDCP incompatibilities with my gear. Sometimes I get a picture for 10 seconds, then no picture for ten seconds and it loops like this. To fix requires an ordered reboot of components in the hdcp chain.

Also, have you noticed the amount of time it takes to change inputs/channels? While I am not totally sure the delays are totally due to hdcp there are plenty of people who say that hdcp is at fault.

eg, my playstation 3 takes 6 or 7 seconds to change video modes. It is a crazy amount of time.

[ps...sorry gone a bit off topic ... i was just curious how the new xbox will affect the hdcp chain]

Now I like the idea of not requiring the disk but I don't think it will be long until games start coming out at an average of 20gb+ and then you have to go through the process of deleting old games to install the new. I hope they at least made the HDD upgradeable.

Some games on the 360 were already ~20GB so I would expect the newer games to be easily 20GB. That is still 25 games (maybe 15 if we include saves and everything else you may save to the HDD). So that's a little bit of head room assuming you don't go out and buy every single game on release date and don't get rid of anything you have already played to death.

I'm hoping they'll allow external HDDs to be used as backup though.

I have a Panasonic LCD TV connected to a Panasonic home theatre via HDMI, and this uses HDCP to ensure the TV audio is played through the home theatre. This works in theory, but in practice we find we often have to power down and restart the home theatre so the TV audio will actually be heard.

343 Studio and Steven Spielberg and Halo TV series on Xbox One... how well can that fare on NZ's screen? Surely Sky (TVNZ or MEdiaWorks) would have some sort of objection to that.

I am yet convinced with the TV integration seeing nearly a decade with Windows Media Center and its lackluster of EPG drama...

Hmmm, I was hoping that it would have tv tuners for live tv and dvr capability, but I guess that would be hard for the different tv signals around the world. having a hdmi in allows for your set top box to be connected, but you still have to switch interfaces etc. not having tuners/dvr capability probably keeps the cost down too.

here's hoping the usb/ethernet ports could be used to add a homerun like device in future!
