Sorry to go off topic, but this is intriguing. So most games on PC you can't re-sell anymore? Or can you deactivate and then sell?

Due to the huge problem of rampant piracy most games these days are tied to some kind of online account, effectively you can't transfer them. This is common for pretty much all software digital distributed not just PC games though.

Like most software you don't "own" the software you own a license to use it.

People don't care because digital distribution has really brought the price of non new release games down, when a game is $5-10 who cares if you cant resell it later.

Here's a list of games I recent purchased in Steam sales and the price (in USD)

Bastion $2.24
Alan Wake Bundle $3.99
Sleeping Dogs $6.24
Assassin's Creed Revelations $4.48
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood $4.99
The Walking Dead + 400 Days DLC $11.23

Personally I never buy the physical disk version any-more, I buy the digital version from Blizzard, Steam, GoG or EA Origin etc.

I think price and convenience of digital distribution via these platforms easily makes up for not being able to re-sell your games.

The problem comes in that with Big titles we done see much change in the prices even with these DRM systems and no need for physical disc's some are still comming out at the $100+ mark, in some cases there have been titles where the digital versions have higher price tags than the physical box copy, people go, look at all these games I get for cheap... thats months after the game has done its "Box office" dash.

Yeah but if you don't like the price of something at release you don't buy it, didn't buy Borderlands 2 yet or Skyrim myself... who cares plenty of alternatives. I'll pick them up on sale sometime when I feel they are cheap enough.

Actualy I think you'll find that the titles on Steam that don't get the massive price drops like the Call of Duty series and a few other games have their pricing set solely by their distrubutors so sales are few and far between. To be honest if people are still buying those games and they're still releasing new content for them then why drop the price to super low rates. CoD games are still massively popular even after another 1 or 2 of them are out this is why the prices stay high.

Borderlands 2 had a good price not that far back on Steam and now sits at a high price. I got it on Xbox both on Disk and digitally (recently for great prices). It's about being at the right place at the right time sometimes and or not minding waiting. I buy most of my games off nzgameshop and instantly save $30 - $50 or more on EB or JBHifi prices and this is for AAA new release titles not months old stuff. Saints Row was a great example of this. I saved $48 off the NZ price for SR3 by waiting 5 days for it to arrive and spent that money getting another game.

Whereas a lot of people simply can't wait and have to have games on day one and pay a lot more for that pleasure. I even have seen the odd occasion where games have failed terribly at launch and by the time they would have arrived things had died down. I could have saved $$$ and everyone else got frustrated and only ended up with a day or two head start. Diablo 3 was a good example of this as was Sim City (new version).

Back on taks though I really enjoy Saints Row games and can't wait to get SR4 sadly budgets mean I will. Hoping to get it for Xmas :-)

networkn: Apparently playable from 10am tomorrow morning NZ time. I want to sue someone !

When you're paying good money like that for day one release you really should get better service than that. I hope the game is worth the wait!

Well at those price I can certainly understand not buying the physical version. So all in US$, does that mean there's no stupid regional pricing where Aussie and NZ pay a premium any more for games when purchased online?

Well finally I managed to get it working, surprise surprise it wouldn't load from the disk (Content Manifest error) but then did download from steam ok. I'm done with Physical Media.

A lot of places in europe do releases on Friday, which is I believe we we had the delay. Depends on the distributor whether they lump us with US or UK release group I guess.

Mines all working on steam now but I cant access the community features it says I have a linked account to steam and when I enter my password it says its wrong have had to email deep silver to get sorted after some research it only seems to effect accounts setup under THQ checked SR3 and same problem. It look to be they didn't transfer the database properly as i can still login to the THQ site and not the saint row site.

Well I have to say despite the hassles the game is a lot of fun. Very much a Prototype copy though. It should tide me over until GTAV.
