sounds like a viral marketer :P

I'd personally go with Blu Ray as an HD format... but meh... who knows what will happen in the future

the PS3 doesn it out of the box though

Hello all

I noticed this thread, and thought i would post my thoughts on the situation, i am very lucky that i do own both of the systems, The Xbox 360, and also the highly acclaimed Sony PS3, and of course with owning both systems it is much easier to be able to run different tests, and understand which console is the better of the two, also take into account that we are all different, so what i think about the overall power/looks/speed and so forth, you and others may say it is not what you think at all.

Now i remember my girlfriend bought the Microsoft Xbox 360 for Xmas, i had heard some pretty bad rumours (nothing really set in stone) about the overheating issue and of course let us not forget the FREEZING issue.

And this did happen to me a lot of times, and although it is not a major issue, if you have the console placed so that there is an efficient air flow fully around the console, this does help, another thing i tried was elevating the big brick power unit for the Xbox 360, what i did was to find a cardboard box big enough to house the actual power supply and leave it in the box, so to speak.

It is a great console, and i have been very happy with it, aside form all the little minor issues, without going into too much detail, and some of my old Xbox games were compatible and quite a few were not, and also other little annoying issues were controller  and other peripherals not being compatible but hey all is not lost.

The graphics are excellent and really really sharp and look really crisp and nicely tidied up on my projected image on the wall in my house. fair connectivity with the Xbox 360, although i was not going to pay £59.99 for a wireless dongle, so used the patch cable that came with the unit, and had no problems with that at all, the online gaming and the XBL (Xbox Live) is awesome, and really really hard to beat

When i purchased my Sony PS3, i was like a little child with a new toy, i hurriedly rushed home to get into that big beautiful machine, and get it setup, i must say the wow factor was unbelieveable, it was a cinch connecting everything up, and the whole process was much easier with the Sony PS3, than it was with the Microsoft Xbox 360, and i can tell you that all my old ps2 games are compatible with my new beloved Sony PS3, and everything about it is much better, than my Xbox 360, without a shadow of a doubt, the immense graphics, can immerse you into a false sense of security depending on which game you actually purchase, but for me i am going to give my PS3 10 out of a possible 10, and for my Xbox 360 i will give a possible 8 out of ten??/

One really good point for the Microsoft Xbox 360 is the XBL, which Sony Playstation network will never be able to beat, it is the best for online gaming out of the two????

I hope this helps

Cheers

Ahhh my friend, you forget that the European (PAL) market missed out on the "emotion chip" for the PlayStation 3. The new 80GB model for the US market won't have the chip either.

The last time I looked at the compatibility list, only 10/30 of my beloved PS2 games will run with "no known issues to date" on the PS3. That's a real kick in the guts!

the emotion chip is in the PS2, the PS3 doesn't have one and uses software emulation / hardware virtualisation instead.
the janurary update fixed most games, I think only 1-2% of games have issues now.

Eh?!? There is an "emotion engine" (EE) chip in the 20GB/60GB Japan and North American PlayStation 3.

1-2% incompatibility?!? You're dreaming.

72% of PS2 Games Work on EU PS3s.
Maybe a slightly higher percentage now, as the news article date was March 20.

Slightly OT, but good to see that the overseas price drops for both consoles are translating across to our prices - yeah right!  I still can't work out why we're paying almost twice the equivalent price for a PS3 in another market.

hey people

Come on! we all know that the Sony PS3 uses Blu-Ray technology for movies and games, it is built in, unlike the Xbox 360 if you really want the quality of HD DVD, then you have to buy the seperate HD DVD unit endorsed by Microsoft, at a big price, just as centurianz rightfully stated, so if you like, you could get yourself one, but for me, i am not really interested in the films/movies, i am more a gamer and prefer the Sony PS3, to my Microsoft Xbox 360??? ?

Here's a good reason to go XBox 360

Plug-n-play the external HD DVD kit with Windows Vista Tongue out (assuming you have HD DVD software too)

Sounds more like a reason to buy the HDKit minus the 360. Wink
