I'm surprised at who is into this. My daughter is - she's 19 so no real surprise. But some of my work colleagues in their late 40s are posting things on Facebook like "There's a Ratacate in my kitchen!" Whaaa...?!

Although I did kinda enjoy reading this on my social media feed this morning: How Pokemon Go users have epically trolled Westboro Baptist Church.

Was ingress this popular when it started?

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

Since I don't have a cellphone or a smart phone, the answer is no.

Wow how do you survive in this day and age without even a cellphone? Not even like. $10-$20 one?

I just posted this on Twitter......

"When Pokemon Go turns out to be mind control software, and you all turn into zombies, I'll be the one bashing your head in, ok ? #PokemonGO"

No death threats received as yet.

While something this popular is always open to abuse (I can just imagine criminals throwing down lures to attract a bunch of kids to relieve of their phones) I have to say it's nice to see people actually going for walks. I felt a lot better for my dose fresh air yesterday afternoon.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Count me as one of those playing, downloaded on Thursday and started getting into it on the weekend.

Local area around home is a bit empty of spawning Pokemon, but coming into Dunedin for work was good. Need to head to some other parts of the city to try to get some different Pokemon, though servers are down at the moment *sigh*

Looks like if you sign into the iOS app with your Google account, the app gets FULL access to your account. Read/write access to email, drive, photos, everything. Presumably just an epic fail by the developer, but scary stuff nonetheless.

Cheers,
Joseph

Or worse, to abduct the kids.

This is why I am not letting my son go hunting without me.

I don't believe so, and for a couple of reasons.....

Initially it was an invite only game, probably wanting to have a slow ramp up and control server load (which is a real problem atm with pokemon go AFAIK).

Also it was only on Android for a long time. By the time it was made available on IOS I think interest in the game was already diminishing.

The moral of the tale is don't do anything playing Pokemon Go that you wouldn't otherwise do (like going to parks at night) and to apply the usual level of caution to day-to-day activities.
