yea i pretty much figured you were gona go about your setup like that, definately keen to see how it goes and whether it was worth it. i'm simply a skeptic because of a few of the dangers and problems associated with the install that you listed in the disadvantages. mainly the increased power consumption of a faster drive and the need to turn it off before the PS3 etc. also this tweaking will no doubt void your warranty as you're not just replacing a hard drive your physically modding your PS3. however good luck and i'm very keen to hear the results.

Coincidentally, I just found this today. You only need to worry about the power supply. http://ps3.qj.net/PS3-accessory-CRGM-BK2-from-Century-hook-any-SATA-HDD-to-your-console/pg/49/aid/115547
