Its on my list, but need to finish off AC odyssey first. I've finished the main story and now doing Fate of Atlantis add-on.

Whats the general timeframe that new release games get discounted?  I got AC Odyssey for $18 and the add-on for $10. (that was about 3 months ago).

i have no real idea. I assume you’re talking about discs. I prefer to buy discs - new or second-hand - so that I can on-sell to re-coup some of the cost. Got Origins and Odyssey second-hand but bought Valhalla new on Day 1.

Games may seem expensive but when I consider that I will easily get 250+ hours out of Valhalla, I think it’s reasonably good value. Got 250 out of Odyssey and nearly 200 out of Origins. Already at 50 hours with Valhalla and I’ve only done part of the opening areas and totally cleared the first two (out of 13) counties in England.

Anyone else playing this?

I keep picking it up for 20 minutes and then going back to Demon Souls!

Not convinced by the controls and combat - especially after the precision of DS...

I found I needed to spend a good few hours at a time in Valhalla to start "getting it".  The stat system is completely terrible though.

Was playing this morning and saw that Ubi had released a major upgrade - main feature seems to be the addition of graphics options for ‘performance or quality’. It downloaded but I haven’t had a chance yet to try and compare the options.

Picked it up for a bit again today and it mostly seems to be a “Find and speak to Sigurd” Simulator interspersed with the occasional bout of treacly-feeling combat.

I think this one may be heading for “Trade” fairly quick.

@eracode what are your impressions at this point? It's down 30% to $75 in NZ this week, worth it at that price, or just wait longer and pick it up for $50? I am in no rush particularly as many aspects don't appeal, but I am quite torn as I might like it, as I liked Watchdogs despite not enjoying any of the previews or descriptions provided pre game. I loved the earlier ones in the series, esp odyssey.

Well I’m about 70% and 180 hours into it - going for 100% clearance of all tasks in each county. There’s an element of OCD in my play. I have enjoyed it but just starting to tire of it - gets a bit repetitive. Some of the puzzles are good and there’s several different types that show up either in story-line gameplay or in ‘mysteries’ (their new name for side missions).

The combat is pretty easy but that’s probably of my making - I have it on a fairly low difficulty setting. There’s only a limited number of kill animations. The bird plays a very minor role and you can play with using it - e.g. it doesn’t even highlight enemies. I’m surprised and disappointed that, unlike Origins and Odyssey, you can’t play in a full stealth mode to clear a fort - after only one stealth assassination the other nearby enemies see you. The enemies don’t ‘patrol’ either - they’re just ‘there’.

Overall I’m enjoying it and will finish it at close to 100% completion - but I don’t think it’s as good as Odyssey. It’s different to the previous two games in some ways but not necessarily better ways. The biggest single disappointment is  the lack of proper stealth play.

Thanks. Wow, 180 hours! That's an innings!

I wasn't aware you couldn't stealth a camp, so that's probably a deal breaker for me.

I may finish the expansions for AC:O and see where I am at after that!

Just thinking further about my comments on stealth: It could be that I don’t have a suit of armour that’s good for stealth and hasn’t been optimised with stealth runes etc. Also may not have deployed some of the special abilities I’ve earned that enhance stealth.

It could be that the NPC enemies react differently depending on all this - in which case I’ve unfairly described the stealth play earlier (but I doubt it). The fact that NPCs don’t patrol like they do in Origins and Odyssey sort of points away from stealth gameplay.

Edit: Earlier I said “... play with using it”. Meant “... play without using it”.
