everettpsycho: I just can't get on board with 512Gb storage on any console

I just signed up for game pass on PC and downloaded like 4 games, came to a total of 600gb. I feel that even 1tb is too little. If I do get a Series X I will have to get an external drive to store games on. would be nice if they had a hybrid drive in them. 500-1tb of fast storage then 1-2 of slower

Series X will be my next purchase - largely due to large existing catalog and Game Pass.

That said PS5 controller seems to get positive reviews and they do have some solid looking exclusives as well.

So yeah, both look great though and as a long time gamer I am blown away by the performance and options we now have.

Yup - I am a hoarder by nature, so I have 3 Ext HDD's hanging of my XBox One, 10TB total - and 65% of that used :)

I don't think much has changed in this regard generation-to-generation; like other electronics decisions (PC vs Mac, Android vs iOS, etc) it really is down to what eco-system you are currently invested in. If you have a stack of PS consoles and games, and/or all your friends are gaming on PS, chances are you are going to get the PS5. And vice-versa. If you are coming at it fresh, great! Pick the one that has the games you like, or cool features (DualSense controller etc).

Like others, I jumped on the 3 year Xbox gold-to-GamePass deal, and don't game online, so I the XSX was the reasonable choice. It also works out better if you are in the PC camp as well, with the whole Xbox Play Anywhere and GamePass Ultimate giving you PC games as well.

I will probably pick up the PS5 digital at some point to play the last couple of generations of exclusive games that I have missed since the last time I owned a PS (PS2...).

It will be interesting to see if any meaningful differences pop up once we start seeing actual next gen titles, since there are slight disparity in their implementations of RDNA2, but probably not anything meaningful by the time game engine considerations are taken into account. And most likely eclipsed by other more meaningful features.

I survive with 1Tb on my one S, it's not ideal but most of my installing and uninstalling is mainly for gamepass quests. 512Gb is just tiny when the likes of cod or flight sim when it arrives are immediately almost half of the useable storage taken up on their own. At least you can hang a usb SSD off them to transfer back and forth or use for older titles, but as we get more optimized games you'll be transferring a lot of a games about and having to manage your storage.

If the memory cards come down in price a bit or offer bigger capacity like Microsoft have suggested they will when they open up to other manufacturers the s might be a bit more of a compelling purchase.

I have tried several times to order a PS5. I now have an Xbox Series S on the way from Spark. The All Access deal seemed pretty great value to me. $39 per month for the Xbox and Game Pass Ultimate. So many good games on Game Pass I’ll be busy for a while!

Got my PS5 on Tuesday, so now I'm faced with a real first world problem...

For non-exclusive games I'm not sure what my "go to" console should be, PS5 or Xbox Series X. Historically I've liked Xbox, and find the Xbox controller a better size for me - but I have to admit to being very impressed with the PS5 Dual Dense controller, the haptics and force feedback are so much better than the basic on/off rumble that the Xbox controller has. In fact playing Medium on Xbox Series X I disabled the vibrations as they were just annoying rather than immersive.

Like I said, first world problem. But are there any other members who have both consoles, and what will your "go to" console be?

I have both the PS5 and XSX. For single player games I tend towards Xbox but for multiplayer games tend towards PS5 as I have a majority of friends playing on PSN. Having both does mean you get a good spread of free games and can take advantage of discounts on each store.

I have had numerous versions of both eco-systems - but recently the PS4 Pro got used for Crash Bandicoot by my partner... and that was it.

The XBox OneX replaced the XBox One... just 'cos.

It was great - but now I have an XBox Series X and may trade in the PS4 Pro and the XBox One X for a PS5 eventually when Harry Partner comes out (my partner has already pre-ordered it... despite it coming out in 2022 now!).

The Series X is quiet, a LOT smaller than I thought it would be + fast as a cat on a hot tin roof.

The transfer process of games via ethernet over my LAN was brilliant too!

I personally don't like any standard controller and ran with the XBox Elite Series 2 controller - the software was great, the triggers were great... but the stick drift is not.

I now have a Scuff Prestige controller (caaaaaching!) and while there's no software or ability to save multiple presets for games / in-game scenarios... it works and I'm quite enjoying it.

Game Pass is ultimately the biggest aspect of the XBox experience, the gaming crew I play with are always jumping on the latest free games and loving it. I stick to few games personally... but it's certainly a reason why I never touch the PS4 Pro.

Yep, laying the XSX on it's side a fairly unobtrusive. The PS5 is also super fast and super quiet - but physically is rather ridiculous!

I might just have to decide on a game by game basis. As examples - apparently Hitman 3 runs better on XSX, while Assassin's Creed Valhalla runs better on PS5. I wish when you bought a digital license you could play it on either.

Yes, go game by game.

For multiplayer games, pick the console that most of your mates have. For single player, check the reviews. If that particular game isn't taking advantage of the Dual Sense then go with Xbox-X or which ever is cheaper.

If you have both then you don't need to say one is primary and I'm only going to use the other for exclusives.

I would still suggest that the Elite Series 2 controller or Scuff variants make the new PS5 controllers look and feel somewhat poor in comparison. Give me paddles over 'feel' in triggers and bumpers any day - or indeed, give me the option to physically click to a hair trigger over a software solution!

Worth every cent if you're looking to get better results from your game play.

There's been some speculation today that Sony might be making another back button like they did for the PS4. I haven't tried it as it seemed a lot for what it gave you and meant charging docks wouldn't work. Not quite a pro controller but will at least give you the paddles.

I've got the 1st gen Elite controller. Never could justify the cost of upgrading to the gen 2.

I’ve got both, and had both for the previous generations ( back to original Xbox and ps1 ( I know original Xbox was more of a ps2 gen).  Anyway, I’ve traditionally been Xbox all the way as my preferred console, but on this gen the haptic feedback on the ps5 controller has me using it as my go to console.

my son still defaults to Xbox however.  And I’ve got to say that gamepass  ultimate makes the Xbox very attractive so will probably end up drifting back to Xbox
