It’s really quite amazing what a difference save states make playing a lot of older games. They were so fiddly compared to modern games and not being able to save as you go was super frustrating.

I’m playing Donkey Kong country at the moment and it’s way more fun not having to repeat entire levels to get to the difficult bit.

I have a Miyoo Mini Plus running Onion OS.

Overall its OK but now with Delta and other emulators like RetroArch on iOS, its just as easy to play on my phone. Looking to get a controller but not sure which one yet.

Senecio:

Timely post. I also ordered the RG35XX H in the Aliexpress sale. It hasn’t arrived yet but it should be delivered next week.i was just doing some research on custom firmware and was also looking into Knulli. I’m looking for something that looks pretty slick, almost like a factory console and Knulli seems to be the one that most YouTube reviewers are suggesting.

looking forward to getting my hands on it.

Make sure you put decent SD cards in it. My one came with garbage tier generic ones. Save states took around 10 seconds to save or restore and performance was generally terrible. Putting in decent Sandisk cards has made a huge difference.

I'm generally really happy with the RG35XX H running Knulli. True sleep would be a nice to have but it doesn't really matter too much.

My only real disappointment with the hardware is it doesn't charge off a USB PD charger. It's fine off bog standard 5V but theres a hardware problem that means USB PD just doesn't work. Other than that it's really good.

I'm also running Knulli now and two Samsung SD cards (32GB OS and 128GB ROMS). I think true sleep is something that really does need to be sorted in a future release. I charge it fully, play for an hour and put it down at ~80%. Pick it up 5hrs later and it's down to 30%. Even performing a full shutdown it still seems to consume some battery. I'll have to keep testing, maybe there's a setting I don't have right?

Other than that, also really happy with the device for the price. Great to bring back so many memories from my childhood. I gre up with various systems over the years (Atari 2600, C64, Sega Master System and finally a SNES before picking up a PS1 in my early adulthood). All of these systems are now available in my pocket but better (save states, upscaling etc...).

One thing is for sure, these devices are never really set and forget. It's easy to fall into the trap of always tinkering and never playing anything on it. I want to try and get mine to a point where I'm happy with the configuration with curated games list and then just use it.
