Would my Xbox One S still be worth selling? If I go PS5 Ill sell the Elite controller separate. Cheers guys.

Wow even the Series S is significantly quicker than the old One S.

are there any problems i should be aware of if buying a "as new" used console still under warranty? (not sure if they get registered it creates issues or similar problems).

for the same price as the series S, you can get a good used Series X or PS5 Disc console. Ive never bought a used console, so not sure what to check for.

Xbox one can still play some of the popular f2p titles, if you don’t have any attachment to it then someone might want it for their kid to play fortnite.

Secondhand PS5/xbox series are usually fine, you would just do the regular checks for buying used. About the only significant issue is if the machine is banned by Sony due to theft or breach of online use. You’d have to see it running and online with a valid account to check.

If you’re getting it from a retailer like eb games then I’m pretty sure they do these checks for you before reselling the trade-ins they get.

Throwing in a slightly off-topic although related reply.

I was considering buying an Xbox or Playstation late last year when I discovered by Samsung TV has an Xbox app allowing me to use Xbox Game Pass to play Xbox games directly on my TV.

The only thing I needed to purchase was an Xbox bluetooth controller.

For $20/month it's pretty amazing.  The video quality can vary a bit as it's being streamed, but 99% of the time it feels like I'm playing on a real xbox.  Games typically load in 30-60 seconds.

If I'm on the move I take my Xbox controller and continue playing on my macbook in a browser.

The only real downsides:

  • The ps://www.xbox.com/en-NZ/play library doesn't offer the very latest AAA games, but they do start appearing over time.
  • Because it's streaming the video quality isn't going to be perfect 4k
  • Occasionally stutters when internet connection is affected
  • It doesn't support local two player games.  For multiplayer games each player needs their own Xbox Game Pass account.

Considering I can get 2.5 years of access for the same price as a new xbox and can cancel & resubscribe at any time I gave up on the idea of buying a new xbox.

Thought I'd mention this in case others weren't aware.  I was completely oblivious to it until I stumbled onto the xbox app on my Samsung TV.

Cloud gaming is definitely an option for casual use. The servers however are in Sydney and the experience is entirely dependant on your connection there and load of their services.

Quality-wise it is still very sub-standard to having physical hardware and forget about playing anything competitive or with a low-latency requirement.

If you don’t need/play any of that it’s certainly cheaper to get going and use on a casual basis.

thats actually a really great option, cos you get access to the games awell.  so really it would take longer for this to cost more.

Games. I have both as I like both and am fortunate I can afford it.

Gamepass is incredible value if you play a reasonable amount of games, and it beats the pants off Sony's offering.

I use both, but prefer the PS5 controller and the PS5 Console graphics and performance seem pretty slick.

...and Steller Blade

I recently bought a PS5 for the nostalgia of Rez and Tekken.

Set it up yesterday and was pretty impressed.

I had had a xbox series x since day one, but never played it and was fairly put off by adverts appearing on the dashboard.

The little things make the biggest difference.
