Hobchild: It get's worse, I just had a look and all you could possibly get at the moment would be a MA beanie, 2 MA magnets, a MA lanyard and your choice between a pack of Kingdom Hearts art cards or a Tom Clancy themed xbox 360 faceplate. That is just pitiful. I don't think your points are worth what they used to be worth somehow.

Yet theyve got heaps of games in their Marketplace theyre selling for around $5 each etc, why not add those to the Banana points scheme.... might tweet them and see if theyll join in on this thread

Ive never really thought about it, in fact I might log in and see how many points I have. We should be able to spend the points on games/items in store.

I buy a number of games through the good folks at MA, and also feel a little annoyed by the lack of options with banana points..

I have managed to purchase some things using them in the last, posters for games the kids like.

Perhaps they would consider prime ape status, or adding signature delivery as a BP reward.

Same boat here. Have about 14k in banana points but nothing to spend them on !

I generally have stopped using them to buy games since they removed the free shipping option & introduced the prime ape. Now I usually hit the local DSE & Rsd Shed with price match, Mighty Ape always tend to be higher priced and don't seem to watch competitors and match accordingly. Its up to us as the consumer.

I was previously more likely to buy something and top up to $50 to get the free shipping. Now not so much. Combine that with the fact I cannot use the banana points for anything meaningful.

I too heard they were reviewing thier banana points system, cannot remember how (email maybe ?) but yeah no improvements.

I have prime ape, and to be honest, not having to pay for freight, means I do buy more from them, I have certainly had value from them. I am going to write another letter to the MD and see what comes of it.

Ive known of Simon since the early 90's, Im not going to harass him about it, its frustrating but its not the end of the world. TBH, last time I complained about similar program with another supplier, I got an email shortly later saying "Thanks for your input, we're cancelling the program" :-p

If he cancels the program without giving proper rewards or notice, he'll be seeing a complaint lodged with the commerce commission and be in breach of the fair trading act. I think rewards being worth 5% of spend isn't unreasonable and MA are clearly taking the P*ss if they think they can continue to want 20,000 points for a BEANIE! I mean seriously, it's wrong, and I don't think it's that big of a deal for him to be called to task over it. At the current rate of points to spend, to get the points I have, I would have spent $4500 with them, to be offered a beanie in exchange for it, is insulting.

To be honest, I'd consider a 1% reward reasonable. Of course it really depends.

My credit card rewards are about 1% of spend, Flybuys are a bit under 1% I think, but that's OK because it's a reward without really changing your habits. I use my CC because I want to and if I don't go out of my way to use Flybuys.

Real Groovy and Shoe Clinic offer 10% rewards but they are on the higher end of price and the 10% is the drawcard and would be one of the reasons for shopping there.

I never really considered the Banana Points as a real incentive for shopping at MA, which is why I valued them at 1% in my assertion above. Especially considering MA will price match, I think a 5% reward is probably too much. I'd say the $4500 you spent is worth about $45. Still a pretty expensive beanie but hardly worth worrying about too much!

Maybe 5% is a little much agreed, but I think a MA Prime Ape Membership and a free game isn't that much to ask. I am thinking I haven't been assigned all my BP's since looking over my history I can see I spent well over 7K with them.

Anyways, it's not a reason to shop there, but at the same time, since they offer them, and they have been promising better rewards for years, and never done anything about it, it's become a bigger deal for me that then it should be.

Definitely I think that cashing them into get their Prime Ape subscription would work (especially since they've built a bit of a ripoff of Amazon's Prime subscription without bothering with Amazon's other drawcard - Free Super Saver Shipping) and they could also get some (close to) free goodwill (and tax breaks) by offering to let you cash them in as charitable donations (e.g. 500 banana points = $10 to that young fella they're sponsoring to go to the Olympics).

Unless they do something though they're in a bit of trouble what with Amazon.co.uk offering FREE shipping to NZ on all purchases over £25 (about $50 NZD) while being at least 50% cheaper than MA!

Wow that's amazing, how long has that promotion been on for?

I loved the old gpstore, bricks and mortar store they had in Mt Eden, each Friday I used to go down there and spend up large, online doesn't have that same immediacy.

Surprise Surprise, no reply from he CEO as yet.
