Well I am at a loss...

Here's a copy + paste of what he is trying to get me to do.

"Please get the following ports opened:

The inability to connect to Origin is usually a blockage of data somewhere along the route of your Internet connection. When troubleshooting online connections, you should keep in mind that you are not only dealing with your home network, but also your Internet Service Provider's series of networks. Also be aware that there can be a number of routers that your connection will pass through in order to reach the EA server.

Information transferred on the Internet is handled by shuttling bits of information, known as packets. For example, when you visited this web page, all the parts of the page were passed to your modem in packets. Downloading information from the Internet is simply a matter of passing packets back and forth between your computer and a server.

If these packets fail to reach their destination, you will receive errors concerning your connection. Here is a short list of some of the things that can stop you from connecting:

Firewalls
Software firewalls on systems and hardware firewalls on routers will prevent your computer from connecting to our server. Check with your Firewall's manufacturer to learn how to adjust your Firewall settings and allow Origin to connect.
Server outages
Occasionally servers will experience an outage. Typically an outage can last from 24 to 48 hours. Check the official website for the game you are trying to access, or the official game forums, for any information on server outages.
Internet security software
Internet security software will block or filter information that may be vital for the software to run. Check your Internet security software and adjust its settings to allow Origin to access to Internet.
Scheduled server maintenance
During a sceduled maintenance you will not be able to connect to our servers. Check your game's official site for information on server outages.

If you continue on experiencing connection issues, it is possible that some of the following ports to connect to our servers are closed or blocked from your connection. The blockage can either come from your connection, or your ISP.

In order for Origin to connect to our servers and function properly, you will need o verify that the following ports are open:

TCP ports:

80
443
9960-9969
1024-1124
18000
18120
18060
27900
28910
29900

UDP ports:

1024-1124
18000
29900 "

What ISP are you on and what modem do you have?

Are you're able to login to Origin and browse the store at all? Can you download/activate a demo like the Kingdoms of Amalur demo?

Hope you've managed to get the game authorised - I can see you on my friend's list now, and the ME3 CE is listed on your games list.

I didn't need to add exceptions to my software or router firewall, so unless your network is locked down especially tight, I don't think it should need ports opened (which can be a security risk).

Sniffing origin.exe's connections, I can see that most connections go to Amazon's EC2 based servers - if you have software like peerblock or similar installed, they block traffic to EC2 by default (as an anti-p2p company).

We're with Slingshot and our modem is a Dynalink RTA1025W

I'll give the Amalur download a go...

Outbound comms on port 443 shouldn't be blocked...otherwise you'd never be able to connect to https sites...

If the only firewall on your pc is windows firewall, then you shouldn't need to do anything. The ME3 executables configure the inbound rules automatically, and the origin client doesn't need any specific ones since it uses the standard ssl port 443.

Can you sign in on the origin client at all? ME3 is already showing on your games list, so I think you've already activated your copy...

did you figure it out? In windows firewall with advanced security, create new inbound and outbound rules for origin.exe that allow unrestricted communication on any port and any protocol.

If you've done that, and there are no other network security programs running on your system, then it's probably not your pc. Have you tried turning off the firewall on your router temporarily to see if that's the problem?

If so, Origin is probably working fine and it's likely a problem with your serial/key. Where did you buy ME3 from?

If not, forget about having to give yourself a static ip address and manually forward a dozen ports... just make sure UPNP is enabled in the modem/router.

BF3 runs fine on it. I haven't had the chance to download Amalur... as I have literally been in feotal position since my 40th Bday drinks last Friday night!!

I am in the process of acquiring a new cd key so, fingers crossed!!

What I should probably do is bring my desktop to a mates place who is on another ISP and see if I can authenticate my install.

I just can't understand why it would not authenticate at my end at all. Hardware firewall turned off, Software firewall off, Comodo off, even changed the port settings etc and still no luck.

If you've got BF3 and that authenticated fine, I don't see what ME3 would have a problem...

Plus I don't think it's connection related either. My guess is that you've got a bad CD key?
