Shindig:

I'm sorry, it doesn't fill me with any excitement at all. Yeah it looks a cool console, sat in any lounge or games room. But the content is what sells! Microsoft do still plug the Halo and Forza games but it feels as if there is more content being developed for Xbox.

I liked the PS series, but my money is with Microsoft for next gen gaming.

I don’t know what news you subscribe to but you seem to have missed the entire ps4 vs xbone generation.

Playstation has had far more content than xbox, while microsoft have pretty much made everything available on windows 10.

No GTA 6? That is the main reason I'd buy the PS5.

Rolling out GTA 5 for PS5 owners, a 7 year old game , is an insult.

Rockstar are milking that game hard. It came out on PS3/Xbox 360 and now they are going to release it on the PS5.

Well looks like all the hoohaa about HDMI 2.1 and 120HZ gaming was just talk. Most games are going to be 4K/60 at least until 2022-23 from everything I have read.

8K gaming was just a pipedream for this gen

All they ever said was that 8k resolutions would be supported not that games would actually run at 8k.

Has anyone heard anything about 'ultrawide' (21:9) support? The only annoyance with my PS4 is that it blindly assumes a 16:9 ratio.

Are you kidding?  All the games showcased are JUST the PS exclusives.  It's not even including the non-exclusive games, and it's also just the first tranche of announcements.  MS is only just catching up to PS exclusives by their investment in first party studios, but currently the majority of their games are still cross platform.  Either way I'm getting both consoles, I never understood limiting yourself to one brand of exclusives arbitrarily.

Agree in principle, but for time+money.

Back in the day I had a PS3, Xbox360 and a Wii.

Fast forward ten years and three kids- a minimum $1,500 for two consoles is a bit of non-starter, I'm afraid.

Not to mention finally pulling the trigger on a 4K TV.

This is why I planned ahead and had a dog and cat instead of kids.  Even the wife only barely made it through induction.

Dog, but no cat in this family. The wife flew through induction when she went without an engagement ring, we spent that money on our first widescreen TV back in 2002. However even she would question two consoles in the house.

My console history goes like

  • Super NES
  • Original Playstation
  • I skipped the PS2 generation
  • Original Xbox (still don't remember why I went this way?)
  • PS3
  • WII (The wife bought me this and it was fun)
  • PS4
  • PS4 Pro

Yeah - a long term partner and no kids does seem to help ownership of multiple consoles...

I have a PS4 Pro (mainly hers for Crash Bandicoot), an XBox One X and a Switch (for use while traveling, remember traveling?).

Will I get a PS5? Nah... an XBox Series X though, that's a distinct possibility.

Bye PS4 Pro. It was fun. It’s not you, it’s me.

Ok. it is you. You’re just looking a bit... old. A younger model has been made available and it helps me feel young too.

No, you can’t have the dogs. Or the house. My lawyer is significantly more expensive than yours. Take the car and go.

Just hope they have better noise control on the fans in this one. Both my original PS4 and Pro are ridiculously loud, especially compared to my Xbox One X which I almost never hear.

Nothing to suggest that it would support other aspect ratios. I couldn't say yes that it would

The major disappointment of this generation of consoles so far is the failure to do better refresh rates, even 90 would be better. Not that my projector does it either way, but still..
