note the following comments from the epitiro report out today:

Epitero report link

epitero:

Telecom has shifted its data transmission policy to having interleaving off by default on its 40GB premium pro plan which is improving latency performance. Telecom plans to make this an option for Adventure and Explorer customers in July.

and

epitero:

Epitiro's data shows that by April 2009, three ISPs had their interleaving 'off' as a default. As Epitiro's platform is measuring DSL providers over short loop lengths, the removal of interleaving provides a significant one-off performance boost to response times.

Well I'm already on supposedly fullspeed/fullspeed. But being Xnet it's anything but :-\

What is the best gamer's ISP nowadays?

I have never once gotten lower than 130MS. Halo 3 is ok to run, but it's still a little annoying to see people taking advantage of me never getting host. lol

Back in 2003 I had a WiredCountry wireless 1Mbps up/down link - think it was around 70/80 a month at the time. That thing was a beast for online gaming - used to cane FreezeQuake and get pings consitently around 10ms IIRC. And yes you do notice! Look at correlations between ping and score - with a few freakish exceptions the LPBs are typically the top scorers in FPS games.

Telecom has offered non interleaving for thier wholesale customers over the last 3 years, I can categorically tell you there are more than 3 resellers out there under non-interleaving, also all education sites (universities e.t.c.) are non interleaving as well.

Telecom use (or were using) interleaving to control bandwidth volume NOT for the sake of data purity (for which it was designed BUT never very effective over the internet).

Ragnor: Human reaction time is pretty slow (~200ms) lower ping can be noticeable but 50-80ms is to be expected on ADSL for local servers and perfectly fine imo.

Test your reaction time here
http://www.humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/index.php

wow, my reaction times a lot slower than i thought, averages 252ms.  I'm frequently highest score when playing COD4, i guess i havnt palyed for over a month and it's different when people are shooting back at you and the adrenaline is pumping ;-P

Actually if you think about it... for a gaming your response time is going to be the latency from the server, your monitor input lag or response time and your reaction time... added together.

So if I have 50ms + 8ms + 250ms and you have 100ms + 8ms + 250ms you're going to be at 50ms disadvantage in reaction time to something happening.

inital responce time doesn't matter so much if you are trailing a target with the crosshair. I think that is why a lag of 50ms vs 100ms makes a fairly big difference. If you use your calculation it would only be a difference of 308ms vs 358ms (16% difference).

I'm getting excellent ping on Teamfortress 2 servers (Aussie & kiwi) 44 ping is the lowest on one of them.

Problem is that game is to fast for me its like everyone is on crack, takes a while for my reactions to catch up lol.

Thank you for your email regarding interleaving on your account.

Interleaving is currently on, on your account. Turning it off would actually increase your ping, not decrease it. If you would like us to troubleshoot the slow speeds to the COD server, please do a tracert to that server.

You can do this by typing in tracer (ipaddress of the server) e.g. tracert 60.234.1.1 . Email us back the results by right clicking in command prompt and selecting mark and then copy, pasting the results onto email.

I hope this email has been helpful

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to call us on the number below or email us at support@orcon.net.nz.
Regards

Is this correct?
