Got that game yesterday, I'd highly recommended it - played it for a couple of hours last night and really enjoying it.

I used to be a PC FPS gamer, and completely agree with your points on reaction times and speed. I'm no where near as fast on the 360. But I find a 5 hour FPS session on the PC will leave my mouse wrist sore for a week (which doesn't bode well for that week at work).

There are a couple of things I'd point out on the OP though:

1. Current gen consoles (PS3 and 360) were released in 2006. Therefore your point of upgrading every 2 years is incorrect given that these consoles have been in play 5 years, with no near end in sight.

2. You outline one of the negatives of PC gaming. Your son's friend came over and had to watch you play over LAN. With a console he could have just jumped in with you guys, I would see this as an example of the anti-social aspect of PC gaming.

But as others have said, it all comes down to personal preference. Also what your friends and the people you game with are using is usually a big factor.

I own both a PS3 and a 360... they're both gathering dust.

My PC gaming rig connected to my 40'Bravia just can't be beat with it's higher res and whatnot... and if I really had to I could also use my 360 controllers with most PC games.

My main driving factor would have to be the pricing of console games vs pc.

Take next months release of DNF for example, it is selling for 109.99 on the consoles and 89.99 for the PC. And if one searched a lil harder the pc version could be bought for $58.00

I used to be a PC gamer, but now pretty much exclusively play on the PS3. Had a couple of issues which just turned me off the PC.

Had The Last Remnant through Steam. All going well, until Steam threw a fit when trying to update the application. Had to restart it, to discover that the game was no longer registered on my account. Tried reloading, no deal. Game was already registered to my account. Tried to go to the support page. Sorry, you need to create a new (different) login for using the support feature. Lost interest.

Company of Heroes, I own the disc. Played through it a few times, then left it for about a year. Came back and tried to play it again, have no idea what my password is. Tried to recover the password, asked me a security question which I never set. Tried changing the serial number over to my other username, sorry you are now locked out of this game (admittingly I had transferred ownership about three times... over 2 years, so what's the big deal?). And why do I need to login to play multiplayer? I just want to play single player. Sorry, you have to login. Lost interest in that.

Add compatibility issues (don't get me started on SBK 09) and trying to get games to run on the correct resolution, I just can't be bothered with it. I like being able to put a disc in the PS3 and play it without any added dramas.

That's all relative to where you look though:

For the last PC and PS3 games I got:

I priced matched Firstgames.com printed it out and showed the person at The Warehouse and got RDR and Gran Turismo both for between $92-96, however I could have got it cheaper had I been to playasia or cdwow and waited 5 days for delivery.

Same goes for PC though, you could buy off Steam and get it very cheap, but then if you ever wanted to sell it, you couldn't since it'd be tied to Steam...

I absolutely hate the updating before you can play feature on Steam(I have updates turned off but it still manages to download).

Yeah, Steam is a real dog.

I have my current flavour-of-the-moment Steam game set for offline play. So, "connecting" (there does appear to be some minute traffic) is painless.
If I switch to "online" mode, the stupid connecting to steam... message sits there for 10+ minutes - all my content is already updated so what it's doing I have no idea.

Well I am getting DNF for the Xbox and paying fullprice for the Balls of Steel edition at my local game store (Gamesman although EB Games owns it I buy from Gamesman not the EB store 2 mins down the road).

I have been waiting way too long to worry about how much I pay for this game. The other game I'm getting and paying for is on PC and that Dungeon Siege 3 which I think is $99 I pay for the convienance of the store simply so i can pay off my preorder otherwise yeah I would just get them somewhere else cheaper (dependant on method $0 - $99 for DS3 and simply can't get DNF BoS edition for $0 so paying for it is the way to go.

I enjoy the social aspect of playing online and not having to worry about upgrading is a huge factor as to why consoles do so well.

I like playing my PS3 on the couch for the 3-4 hours a week, this doesn't make me lazy, just comfortable.

I likes playing GTR2 on PC/laptop as I liked customising the cars specs etc.

I like that my PS3 plays games (most) without issue (except fallout 3 and New Vegas)

I brought my PS3 because I am an average gamer, I sit and play it on a rainy day or when I have finished my outside work! I also like to be able to share it easily with my partner, which the PC is not as easy to do.

The PS3 and Xbox etc are designed for your everyday Joe Bloggs to have access to some pretty impressive games, not to take over from PC gamers.

2 different tasks each with their own benifits.

I think one thing we got over the consolers is MODS. We can mod our games providing the devs put out the code for us to play around with rarely this is done but on some rare occasion the game devs will put it out. Or games that come with editors yet I presume console games would come with editors. If not then editors in games are a big plus for prolonging the game. Years down the line gamers are still modding their favorite game for others to upload and try out.

Yeah mods are all good, I don't really play my old half life anymore, but used to up until I got the Playstation

Another thing I find is that most of my mates don't play PC games anymore and probably never will if the PS4 and Xbox 3 comes out .

I think one of the reasons PC gaming isn't as popular for developers is because so many people pirate. Thus some developers just think, we sell more games on Xbox or PS3, why develop for PC. And just do a crappy port over, like GTA4. And to be honest I agree with those developers

Say you take above stats, if Duke Nukem account for 10%(ok i doubt it would)

X360 * 96(Rough price at The Warehouse if price matched) = 13.2 mill in revenue
PS3 * 96 = 10.8 mill
PC * 59 at CDWow price = 1 mill, then a few million copies are pirated, cracked, onto the net...

It's just not worth it for them to keep developing for PC in my opinion. Even though I don't support how much some developers charge for their software...

Um in case noone mentioned this (responding to 1st reply) you can now easily hook your pc up to your tv. Most graphics cards have hdmi out now even the budget ones a d it looks great.

I also suspect most console gamers are on tighter budget than hardcore pc gamers.
