Big fan of old school Duke Nukem 3D, and although I haven?t played this game I have watched quite a few youtube vids of people playing it and I have to say it looks terrible. Not just the graphics, but the game itself looks dull. The weapons look feeble, the enemy AI looks like they just run straight at you. The set pieces and ?rail shooter? parts look poorly thought out and far too numerous. Driving the RC car when shrunk is a dull gimmick. The puzzles barely qualify as puzzles. (it?s good that they have removed the ?find blue keycard, find blue door, find red keycard, find red door? puzzles, but they seem to have replaced them with an entirely linear pathway.)
Basically, no way in hell I will be buying this. I wouldn?t even pirate it.

Yeah imo you can never get a reliably accurate feel for any game just by watching a video clip. There's no tangible impact from pulling off skills yourself for starters... I'm not saying DNF specifically will change your world by any stretch, but just in general, video clips are not the best single indicator for much of anything.

Well i got my spacebar tapping up to speed, and have played a few more levels. It's fun, but in places is not overly interesting. I also find the crudeness a bit much in DNF, like they're trying too hard.

I'm enjoying it though and will play it through to the end.

I thought the point of the new one was to be a good game. this game looks rubbish.

As for being in keeping with the style of DN3D I don't think it achieves that either. The new one feels way too 'try hard'.

Kind of like your lame uncle who tries to will ferrell to you to be funny. It just doesn't work.

The Duke failed guys. Got average scores.

In the first few moments of Duke Nukem Forever, your character pees in a urinal and then earns an achievement for reaching into a toilet and extracting a piece of human excrement. Why does the game reward you for doing this? I have no idea. It's not part of a joke or important to the story; the designers of the game apparently feel that you would miss out by not holding some poo in your virtual hand.

That review is excellent and sums it up perfectly.
The game does redeem itself slightly on the wild west / hoover dam levels, and the shotgun is heaps of fun. I think I will breath a sigh of relief once I have finished the game though.

I took one look at the screenshots in the steam store and was turned off, before I even noticed the regional ripoff that sealed it. Think i'll keep my happy memories intact of the original 3D and scrollers.

I'd really like to get dosbox on my droid to replay some keen, dangerous dave, duke etc. (oohh, looks like you can)

To make things worse, the producer said that future game reviews will be sent depending on the Duke Nuken reviews out there.

In other words, if you are a game reviewer and don't give it a 5/5 then it's likely they won't give you access to other games in the future.

Talk about reality distortion field...

The ars technica review was a little harsh, the problem with Duke is the name both helps and hinders it.
i've played worse, there are certainly things that could have been FAR better abotu duke, but it's certainly not the worst game i've played recently. (Ghostbusters springs to mind)

Graphics, well to be honest, they "look" a little dated in place but i certainly can't draw better, for all those complinaing, then i'd love to see them do better and release something suitably stunning. :)

Reviewer bias and getting things? Wow, hardly heard of that in the last few years ;)

Either way I enjoyed Duke for a bit of a laugh, but I wasn't going in expecting some deep experience of some in depth shooter, anyone going in with any expectations like that will be sorely dissapointed.

Is it a good game? no, it's a little average, but wait for it to become cheaper and pick it up then. or if you just want a bit of purile fun that doesn't take anythign serously, and can stand all the loading screens and checkpoints, then duke is fine. :)

What the hell does it matter whether someone can or cannot produce superior graphics to the DNF team?

Why should it be necessary for me to be a superior programmer before I can make a judgement on the quality of others?

The difference in quality is obvious to anyone who has played a decent FPS in the last 2 years, there is absolutely no need to be a game programmer to be able to make that judgement call. The graphics are objectively considerably worse than the current standards.

I'm surprised at the low reviews that Duke has received. I've played afew levels and loving it, some graphics are not up to the level of some of the other mainstream FPS's but some levels are really well done.

It's old school, has some puzzles to solve along the way. The platform jumping adds alittle fun to it, women everywhere, very "adult" themed.

Swearing / nudity / tounge in cheek humor. All good, I'm enjoying it.

Point and shoot fun :-)

Hahaha yeah but back then the graphics weren't as good a pooh was not a pooh it was maybe a brown square pixel. Today's graphics though that pooh will look real. No thanks! lol
