Skolink: Wait - it's jumped to 93% complete!! I will be playing to night (maybe)!

Surely you could return it to the shop to say it is unusable, especially if it is not completing the download. That is pretty poor that you have to first register and download a huge update which is probably the best part of $10 in data charges. That should be advertised on the retail box in your store.

From the review -

"No humor can make up for the game's rampant hatred of women..."

Seriously!? Duke loves his women! The rest of the detail is certainly no worse than anything that happened in the Aliens franchise. Did anyone accuse Ridley Scott of a rampant hatred of humans (or rottweillers for that matter)?? I think the reviewer clearly has some issues in this regard.

"This is what passes for humor in the game. It's not racy, it's not funny, and it makes you feel dirty. Every time I put the controller down, I felt the need to rub my hands on my jeans as if the game were making me physically dirty."

Well I'm still enjoying DNF but what would I know. I consider Two and a half Men to be the most purile program on the box despite being the most watched thing on TV. Clearly everyone has differring thresholds and standards. As for load times, I'm done in 3-5 seconds on my laptop. Meh...

I think the load times the reviewer is refering to are on console (which is always been a downside of console gaming)

I agree with all those who say it isnt that bad and I will be buying it.  It comes down to personal preference.  If you don't like the sound of the humor then don't buy it.

It annoys me that people bitch and moan when they buy a new release game then complain that it is bad, why did you go out and buy it without researching first?  IMHO you deserve what you get, wait a week or so, read the reviews then make an informed decision on whether to buy it or not.

Yeah but if you base your decision on reviews like that one, you're not going to feel too inclined.

True, but you should always check out more than one source of information to make a decision.  There is a series of videos on youtube which give a good overview of the gameplay.

Life is too short to worry about these things. either buy it or not! Cool

Finished it up last night so it's only about 12 hours long. Not nearly as epic an ending as the first but still, overall a fun ride for $7.16 an hour...

plas: Had the same issue with the install.

Message pops up about servers not responding then it starts downloading. Just cancel and delete the game from steam, then reinstall from disk again and it installs fine.

Overall its a good game, but don't expect it to be the next Halo (or whatever). MP seems fun but 95% of the time no servers show up in the browser. Although I've heard its pretty bad on console.

+1 this worked for me when installing and it had errors.  Thanks!

5 minutes into the game I get graphical glitches, 10 minutes in crash to desktop. So far singularly unimpressed.

Just finished the game also. The game does improve somewhat from the monster truck / wild west levels onwards.
The thing I still like the most about the game is the shotgun, it is so useful, unlike every other game I have played. White meat, who wants it?

Load times are atrocious! Spend a good minute and a half every time one of those screens come up (and my machine isn't the bottleneck - Core 2 Quad Q6200 with 4GB DDR2 RAM, not likely).

I would say there is something wrong with your PC.

Load times for me are ~30seconds.

Running on less hardware than you (Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, 8800GT gfx, SATA HDD)

I agree load times are bad. It varies quite alot between levels, and sometimes did take at least a minute or two to load some levels. It's painful waiting for it to load if you keep dying at a tough part.
My system is an Athlon dual core '6000+' (3000MHz) with 2GB RAM.

Interesting, my computer is by far not the fastest thing out there, but load times for me are fine.

When dying and reloading, the first reload may take a bit longer, but subsequent loads are fast.

I have not waited longer than 60 seconds for something to load at all.

Starting the game and load times are fine for me too, having a ssd drive makes a big difference.
