after completing the game for the first time and listening to the closing credits/music, I realised the game had done something extraordinary. I'd invested emotionally with the actual story. It was as if I was Max Payne and felt his bleakness and loss. In spite of my epic struggle to find the truth, the joke was on me

dman: oh man, you should get a copy of it! if anything I'd say the story telling in it is even stronger than in the sequal, though obviously the graphics is a bit worse... but hey, we don't care about graphics do we?!
