I've found PS5 to be fussy with storage.  I've got a 2TB NVME M.2 in an enclosure.  Works fine on my PCs but PS5 won't recognise it.  Same with some bog-standard drives I've got.  I'll be happier when they enable the 2nd m.2 on the PS5 and I can use that.

networkn:

No, is it wireless or ethernet ?

Tested via both Wireless + Ethernet and both were crashing (had to do 6 console reboots in a day). May have been an issue with the firmware my PS5 came with as I have not seen it again since the latest firmware.

Boom - 10k!

If it continues, I'd be considering an RMA. It's certainly nothing I've seen, but as you say, maybe fixed in a firmware update. I never reboot my PS5. It' sleeps and resumes seamlessly.

Congrats on 10k

Just saw this summary of PS5's shortcomings - all of which have been discussed here:

I don't care about any of those issues really, the biggest issue I have is the lack of next gen games so far.  I'll care about drift if it happens, but until then it's not something I think about.  I don't care about the size, especially since putting the dbrand plates on and making it black.  And I don't care about storage really, I can manage with what's there.  If there were full on functional issues it'd be a bit different.

Storage I do care about a lot, though right now it's not a daily issue with the SSD External that I bought, it was when I first got it. Controller drift I haven't experienced, but it will drive me crazy if it does and I'll be getting replacements promptly.

Agree about the lack of games, will be interesting to see what gets delivered.

At the moment I am enjoying remasters of Spiderman and I haven't played Miles Morales (I don't like him as spiderman) much. I'll be getting onto those more in the coming few weeks.

Same here. Had mine since launch day and haven't had any problems with the network connection (Ethernet).

So what is the deal with PS5 stock? Are retailers adding them online constantly, or are batches generally being put up weeks apart? Just trying to figure out how often/when I should be checking on retailer websites to check for availability.

Normally batches weeks apart. Join the "PS5 and xbox restock NZ" Facebook pages. They're pretty quick at alerting when there are some in stock somewhere.

FYI if anyone is struggling to get the new update for the PS5, I had to reboot to safe mode and download/install it that way.  Didn't seem to recognise there was an update when it was in normal mode.

I love to know how many have actually been brought into NZ in total so far, compared to how many people want one.

Well few thoughts on PS5 life, had mine for around 2 weeks now.

Dualsense controller is fantastic, even though I'm only playing PS4/PS4 upgraded titles on it so far I just love the extra length where your palm goes, cannot wait to feel more haptic feedback and immersion on proper PS5 games.

Loading times, WOW on PS4 disc games especially like GTAV the loading times are about half the PS4, also love the ability to quickly switch between games.

Graphics, just started Days Gone PS4 upgraded to 4K/60 on my OLED looks absolutely brilliant, this is what nex gen gaming should look like. No FR issues and the colours in HDR are just wow.

PS Plus Collection - free for PS5/PS Plus members I think its 15-20 of the best PS4 games available to download for free. Grabbed a few titles I wanted but never purchased, very happy. This along with the monthly PS plus games is a brilliant addition.

Things I don't like, storage for PS5 games, hope the M2 upgrade is available soon. I'm not running out of space but would appreciate more. The only other small bug bear is getting used to the quick push on the PS button on the controller to get to the bottom switching menu. I also wish you could turn the console off with one push on the controller rather than 4-5 actions to get to power off.

If anyone has any questions, fire away

Just to note there is no speed benefits of PS5 internal storage for PS4 games. They seem to be limited by the software back-compat and an SSD connected via USB3 will provide identical performance to using internal storage for PS4 specific titles.

Digital Foundry did a pretty good video on it all.
