SpartanVXL: Looking forward to the Halo Infinite multiplayer test this weekend and next.

Well this ended up a bit short lived. PC client has something dragging down CPU performance without the use of dynamic performance (minimum framerate option). Additionally with forced TAA it ends up blurry/ghosting at high framerate or stuttery/juddering mess on manual settings.

Lot of people reporting this on forums, not looking good for a end of year release.

Have received Death Stranding - Director's Cut and played the intro and literally only the first couple of minutes.

I have a preconception that this game is very different to many other games, so before going further I have been reading 'how to get started' stuff online - mainly a very good intro and guide by Polygon.

Man, the game seems incredibly complicated - but in a good way that appeals rather than scaring me.

I don't remember seeing a lot of comment in this thread about the initial 2019 version of the game but I would be grateful to see comments from people who have spent time with it.

I plat'd Death Stranding way back when it came out. Took about 90 hours or so. Not sold on the extras being worth the revisit as well and emotional trauma of life events happening between then and now that the game would touch on.

Still quite happily plodding through Quake on PS5. Base game, Armagon and Dimension of the Past done on nightmare. Working on the new expansion now. I'll buy an actual PS5 game some day.

I see Diablo Resurrected got fairly luke wam reviews. I tried it over the free to play weekend and there were just many little things that annoyed me, like travelling back to 'base' meant you had to clear areas again and you lost your fog of war etc.. I dunno, I feel like games have moved on. It was pretty though.

I just pre-ordered Far Cry 6, Mighty Ape have a pretty decent deal on it right now. $85 incl delivery if you are a prime ape.

Started playing the new MMO from Amazon Gaming called New World. Quite enjoying it so far, especially with servers in AUS. Hugely popular.

My understanding is that a big part of the luke reviews were due to review bombing due to some of the intial server issues those in the states (and EU?) had.

If you liked the game 20 odd years ago it is pretty much the same game and for me a massive "improvement" on D3.

Wishing I hadn't bothered though. Way too hard for me and there's no way to dialthat back.

I got bored of dying after a week.

Far Cry 6 arrived late last night and I got to play a couple of hours of it. It's really pretty is my first impression. It's also very R18.

I haven't really achieved much yet. More gaming this weekend.

The ascent on game pass on the series x, reminiscent of Diablo but with a cyberpunk skin, plenty of swears etc, surprising how enjoyable it is.

I have had real doubts that it would be a game for me - your comments have sealed it and I won't be buying.

Enjoying Death Stranding after a rocky start. I found the controls and menus difficult to understand, non-intuitive, sometimes internally inconsistent - and there's little by way of tutorials. Steep learning curve. Now that I'm about half-way through and getting it sorted in my head, I've found the UI is actually OK once you understand it. Very unusual game but also very engaging. Director's Cut looks looks totally brilliant on PS5 and almost instantaneous load times.

Far Cry 6 will be after DS.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

So after a few more hours of playing, I am relatively disappointed in Far Cry 6. I don't really like the gameplay mechanics as much. Stealth is genuinely pretty hard to do, sniper rifles are pretty hard to use and most of the time I just go in guns blazing. The best gun so far has been a pistol. There is too much faffing around with 'the right tool for the right job'. Having soft flesh ammo then armour piercing etc and switching between them etc.. It's all a bit of a pain. I'll throw a few more hours into it, but if it's not improving in short order it may end up on the shelf. Disappointing since its been one of my favourite franchises for a long time.

It's a video time-lapse of a puddle over the space of a few hours.

Still plugging away slowly at Quake on PS5. New Dimension of the Machine campaign definitely has player skill expectations, which it happily giving you closet fights versus two shamblers or throwing three at you at once from behind a door (I'm playing on Nightmare so it's at peak enemy numbers)

For those interested the most recent update adds mouse + keyboard support for all consoles for Quake. I haven't tried it yet as I'm committed to getting the platinum with only a controller but I'll check it out after.

Looking for gaming recommendations for PS5. I can't see myself paying $120-140 for the new games yet so have been looking at some of the PS4 classics that come with PS Plus. Some decent options. Anyone like Detroit: Become Human? I don't game a massive amount but here's some of the stuff I've looked at this year:

Recently played:

Watch Dogs: Legion – good game

Wreckfest – played until finished single player mode, old school crashing and racing but not much more to it than that

Yakuza Like A Dragon – enjoyed a lot

Star Wars Squadrons – liked the single player mode once I got into it, might go back and re-play, could not get into online multiplayer – struggled to find good matchups

Ratchet & Clank PS4 from 5 years ago – never tried one of their games before, liked a lot and will buy new PS5 version next time it is on sale

2K21 PGA Tour – OK but a little boring, not much in the way of challenges

FIFA 21 – is what it is, won’t shell out for FIFA 22 at full prices

Want to play:

Ghosts of Tsushima, FF VII Intergrade, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Deathloop – don’t want to pay full whack for them (although probably will end up doing so for at least one of them 😀)

Spiderman series is good, the last of us gets great reviews (I personally didn't find it as good as most people but totally accept that's likely a personal preference), God of War is a must in my opinion. Most of those are PS4 games with either free upgrades or cheap upgrades.
