I have bought 2 PS5's for basically 80% more than RRP and I don't think i'm a sucker. Actually I have no regrets doing so!

Bought both on afterpay, both with a NZ warranty, so it's not like I needed 100% of the money to buy the more expensive PS5's. Like I said, I could pay it off.

It's how the world is operating now during covid. Things are costing more and the PS5 is a prime example.

I thought this thread was about talking about the good things about the PS5? But now it's turned into who's scalping who etc...

Thought i'd have my say :)

Perhaps "sucker" wasn't the best word to describe everyone who purchases one for significantly higher than RRP. The longer the shortage continues, the more I can understand why some people just throw up their hands and purchase at a higher price. But most people can't afford (or at least can't justify) spending $1400-$1500 on a console with an $819 RRP - AfterPay still needs to be paid back! For those with an excess of disposable income I guess it's a bit different, but personally I wouldn't do it on general principle (easy for me to say since I already have one).

But I'd wager that for every person who could afford it, there's probably two more who will really be stretching themselves but do it anyway out of FOMO. To be honest, I don't have a huge amount sympathy for those people if they later regret the purchase - they had the option of waiting. My sympathy goes to the people who have saved up (sometimes for a long time) and now they can't get one, and are forced to wait because they simply can't afford the over-inflated scalper price.

A good deal of this thread has been about how to get a unit, who has stock, etc; so I believe it's perfectly relevant to discuss how scalpers are reducing the availability at RRP.

On an unrelated note, the new black controllers look so much nicer than the white ones - but since I'm the only person in the house who uses the PS5 I can't really justify getting one.

yus! got a phone call last night from Jb Hifi, picked up my sons ps5 last night :) looking forward to his reaction when he gets home from school today!

If I see stock I'll do what I did last time, buy one and sell it to a regular poster here for what I paid for it. I did this once before and it worked OK.

I was chatting to the staff at the store when I picked it up and they said their store [Albany, Auckland] only gets 30 a month and have 600 people on their waiting list!

I was telling them I almost didn't answer the call as I was waiting for my name to be called at a clinic and he said "lucky you did, if you didn't answer we would have moved onto the next person on the list"

I've grabbed one, in case someone is at work and will miss out. I'll pass it on at the price I paid $819 and $6 for shipping, just trying to do my part to help out. You need to either be a regular at GZ or a regular in this thread before I'll sell it to you, and you have to agree, you won't onsell it for profit.
