with lack of info from Sony on it, would be interesting to see if there are in fact any compromises, 300 grams is pretty decent reduction for an electronic device..

Makes me think back to the PS3, the original version was full fat and feature rich.. then subsequent releases were trimmed down models, less features..

Looks like a compromise has been made - a smaller heat-sink. Not sure I like the sound of that.

I would wait until further analysis is performed. The exhaust heat is not a good measure of performance of the heatsink.

Really don’t understand why you made that comment - no-one has mentioned exhaust temperature and it’s not referred to in the story I linked.

Anyone happen to have an extra PS5 available? Let me know as my colleague is wanting one.

Go re-read it, they have made an update to clarify that it was exhaust temperature

@lokhor OK, but the word exhaust was not in the first version of the story when I posted it - as noted in their later update note.

As has been noted by some of the more tech savvy outlets, until someone actually measures the temp of internal electrical components, the marginally higher exhaust temp means nothing either way in isolation, and could actually be indicative that the new cooling solution is more efficient at dispersing heat.

It's a pity they didn't make a change so that the base screw, which is used only in vertical orientation, could also be used for horizontal. As it is now, when horizontal, there's no screw - the base just sort of clips on (actually it just sits there) - then becomes dislodged whenever you move the unit slightly.

Owing to the location of my PS5, it's very difficult to attach the cables and then push it into place and adjust its position without the clip-on base coming off (horizontal orientation). I don't need to move it often (not for dusting) but when I do it's a PITA.

So I have taken matters into my own hands. Drilled a couple 1.5 mm holes in the base clips, through into the white case - and put in a couple of 10 mm long SS screws. Now no matter how I move the unit, the base can't come off. IMO Sony need a solution like this.

Has anyone experienced stick drift yet with their PS5 controller?

I think I am starting to have this issue with the left stick drifting left.

My PS5, bought on Day 1, recently developed an intermittent ‘stick drift’ fault on the bundled DualSense controller. When I googled this I found that a number of people around the globe have also already experienced this with the PS5 controller. Apparently it’s common on the older DualShock 4 controller but usually when it’s getting old and has had a hard life.

This morning I took the controller back to Noel Leeming and somewhat to my surprise they simply took a brand new standalone unit out of stock and handed it to me, keeping the faulty one. The guy who served me understood what stick drift is, so I didn’t even have to go into a long explanation about the fault. Fortunately they had one in stock.

The whole thing was done in a matter of minutes and with a total absence of fuss. Given negative comments here on GZ regarding Noel Leeming and product faults, CGA etc, I was pretty impressed with this - not to mention pleased.

@Baldrick I had a left stick drift problem with my DualSense when it was only 6-7 weeks old, on 29 Dec 2020 - above is my post made at the time.

Recently, when playing Resident Evil Village, I had what seemed to be left stick drift. However I think it was peculiar to that game. I’ve now finished the game and no issues with game I’m playing now.

There's a few PS5 games that had me thinking I had this too. But I think it was just the game slowly auto-panning before coming to a stop.

In RE Village, when I was apparently stationary (no stick inputs at all), it was as if I was slowly creeping forward - seemed like forward left stick drift. I could correct it by pulling back slightly on the stick and then I would actually be stationary. Was weird. However, as I say, not showing in my current game so I'm I'm just going to forget about it for the meantime.
