I managed to have one of my in-store preorders come up today so took it and PS5 is now en-route (at cost!) to my sisters partner. He has been trying to get one since they came out and is super excited.

Just wanted to add a data point regarding availability (disc edition, Christchurch). I was set for a long haul, hoping to get something before Xmas, but figured it would be 50-50.

Started seriously looking on Monday this week. Followed @NZRestockAlerts on Twitter, got on the wait list at my local HN (I was 12th in line), and paid a 20% refundable deposit for a backorder at local PBTech (was about 12th in line also).

Got a text from PBTech today, picked up this afternoon!

Perhaps I’ve got extremely lucky here, but for those who are hunting for one I’d recommend following the restock alerts account on Twitter and getting onto an in-store queue at HN or PB.

Don’t let the Trademe scalpers win…

Have been impressed with the start/load game speed on Death Stranding - Director’s Cut, a hi-res game tailored for PS5. I just timed it: 12 seconds from click ‘start’ until it’s ready to play.

I definitely rate the EKWB heatsink, was super easy to install and quite cheap.

Heh, I didn't find it easy to install. Those clips were a PITA. You actually have to attach them in a specific order and the instructions were pretty basic. I got there in the end, but I wouldn't rate it as 'easy' compared to the others I have seen online.

Anyways, I now have an extra 500GB storage, which is nice I guess.

Yeah I watched a video and the guy used tools. I just did it by hand and it took a couple of seconds to get the clips on. Maybe mine weren't as tight?

Out of curiosity, did you remove the flexible material heat spreader that was included on your NVME Drive? i didn't bother, possibly made it a fraction tighter.

I couldn’t get mine on at all - don’t recommend the EKWB and I’ve order an other heatsink which uses screws

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend them either. The only issue was that it was the only thing I could get at the time.

Yes I removed it, maybe that made the difference. Anyway it was pretty cheap and since installing it I've had no issues.
